Will the mobo still work without this cap?

My laptop mobo died, so I bought a new one off ebay. However when I took it out of the static bag, a capacitor fell out. The capacitor value is 470 EFC. 7N5 and looks like this......

The seller asked me to try the mobo as he said quote "those capacitors are not that important." Its located right next to the cpu socket if that helps.

I can send it back but im going to have to pay postage and it will cost me at least $20, probably more.

Anyone have an idea what that cap is? Even if it does work, is it probable that the mobo will fail down the track?

    Thanks

probably its going to work but since boards generally have minimal bulk capacitance it may affect stability a bit or it may not

is it probable that the mobo will fail down the track?
    no

find someone to solder it back if you want to avoid postage etc. but i dont think the attitude of your seller is very good

Re: Will the mobo still work without this cap?

If I was your seller I would take it back without charge...
but anyway, I bought a vintage 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 like that, no problems soldering the two caps back that had come loose in shipping...

If it is for the VRM of the CPU it will depend on how much current the CPU uses, a lowerend CPU might be fine but the fastest one the mobo supports might fail to function properly...

I got a video card in the mail today. It was in a bubble mailer.

Luckily no damage. It would have been a shame if one of the Teapos broke off.

I agree I can't stand sellers who don't adequately protect sensitive electronic assemblies. Whether it's a lack of knowledge or care or both I don't know. Just charge the customer the fee for the PROPER packaging materials in the shipping. If if they whine about it explain in your auctions for the additional shipping cost.

If they whine about the shipping you don't want them as a customer anyways because they would be the first to whine for a return when they screw up the install.

That's what I learned during my first year selling on ebay anyways.

The seller should take the board back free of charge since they obviously didn't package it right.

If the caps traces haven't been ripped off get someone to solder it back on.

If one of the caps legs have been ripped off you will need a new cap.

But a new cap with shipping will come awfully close to the return shipping charge.

Assuming you don't want to throw money away, but want it perfect...

The cheapest fix would be put it back.

There should be solder where it came from.

Get some copper hot and use it like a soldering iron. Maybe some stripped aerial lead held with pliers heated on a gas oven flame.

Theres a chance it will take ok, as long as everything you're using is very clean and hasn't been touched with greasy fingers.

I've never tried this technique though. In my head it works great and is best priced option. Free.

ASUS ROG Strix G713QR - Keyboard, backlight and side LEDs don't work
              by hollox123
Hello, I have an "ASUS ROG Strix G713QR" laptop, and for approx. 3 months I have the following problems:

              1. Laptop keyboard doesn't work
              2. The backlight on the laptop keyboard doesn't work
              3. The x2 side LEDs (red) on the laptop don't work

The power button works, the touchpad works, and all the USB, HDMI, Ethernet, etc. ports work.

I already tried to reinstall all the drivers and reinstall Windows. So I don't know what to try anymore that is software-related.

But I am strongly aiming that it is somehow a BIOS-related problem,...

lenovo 330s-15ikb, led num lock key always on and numbers don't work
              by resistor83
hello everyone, I have a particular problem with this lenovo ideapad 330s-15ikb. I had to replace the motherboard due to liquid damage, after replacing it I noticed that some letters on the keyboard do not work. So I bought a new keyboard and now all the keys work except the numeric keypad area. In practice the num lock key LED always remains on and the numbers do not work. Has anything like this ever happened to you? I also tried changing the keyboard again but the same defect remains on the numeric keypad.

I tried updating the bios but the problem remains

My touchpad doesn't work, Asus laptop motherboard X455LJ REV 3.1
              by Rhaverz
              Good afternoon friends

I have an Asus laptop motherboard X455LJ REV 3.1 that the touch pad does not work, I was trying to check if something was wrong at the drive level but I did all the necessary installations and the touchpad still does not work.

I have a feeling that the error goes more to the board level because the touchpad is not recognized by the device manager and it is supposed that even if it does not work correctly it has to be detected.

I even checked that the data bus made a connection between the touchpad and the motherboard and everything...

Hi everyone, I'm here on this section after coming from the BIOS one.
              .My laptop powers on
              .The power light is on
              .The charging one isn't
.The laptop emits a "bip" when I detach the charging cable
.Charges my phone if I plug it in a USB port
.The CPU gets warm and the fan spins accordingly
.The screen goes from shut off to powered on but black in loop
. Already reprogrammed the BIOS correctly
. Already tried with an external monitor
