    The Infamous eMachines T2245

I have read many forum posts on the "inerwebs.'" My problem isn't really unique, but this problem has a strange twist to this.

I was sleeping on a Thursday morning before school, my mom come in and woke me up. She said something about a computer, being a technophiles, I hopped up to see what was happening. In this part, I will describe the problem the best I can, I saw my laptop on at the BIOS password screen, (a different story), and my T2245 Server flashing like crazy, I could hear the hard drive spinning like crazy, the CD Drives also flashing like crazy and the fans spinning like crazy,( I use the word 'crazy' too much but it would be worse if I used 'wicked'), but my laptop, router, monitor and everything was fine... Come to think of it, it was raining last night. but there was NO power outage, whatsoever. My mom said, I made a bad habit of leaving the computer on a lot, but I DID NOT TURN IT ON ON WEDNSDAY.

    The Result on Thursday afternoon:

Once I finished my homework, I took my T2245 down from my desk and opened it up. Everything looked normal and nice. Next I plugged it into the wall, the fan started up and then the HD light stayed on. Then it shut down and I smelled smoke, being a 12 year old, I exaggerated every detail in an Asain language. I got downstairs and grabbed a fire extinguisher and brought it upstairs. but there was no fire. (Thank goodness, God saved my family from a burning house!) But I did notice an "Intel" chip look like melted rosin, (rosin is a piece of metal, copper, who knows whats in it, that can be melted together if it breaks, its is used for perfect sound in violins), but only small dots look like it on the Intel chip, not CPU I think. I turned on my T2245 on again and there was more smoke. I unplugged it and went on to this "suppa cool" forums.

What was strange was that I haven't turned my computer on in FIVE MONTHS. How could this happen? I have no idea. I hope that the Hard Drive isn't damaged. The PC is really trustful, it has server me well in a few years of its life and dided like the brave heros on 9/11. Guess this day was full of bad luck. I quietly await your help... Thank You

That is not good if smoke pours out of your eMachines computer.

If the Intel chip is fried and melted, then your motherboard (the big square or rectangular circuit board in your computer where everything is connected to) is probably fried (which means dead). Please, if possible, take a few pictures and post them here on the forums (you can upload pictures to ************* and copy and paste the link here).

Also, where is the smoke coming from? I'm thinking the cheap "Bestec" brand power supply could be the problem. They are known for killing eMachine computers due to their shoddy (which means really bad) quality. The power supply is the grey box usually in the upper left corner of your computer, and it has many colorful wires coming out of it on the inside of your computer and it is where you plug the power cord in the back of your computer.

I don't think your eMachines computer can be saved. It is not your fault, the bad quality of eMachines computers can be blamed.

(also, I had to modify my wording so the 12 year old member can understand)

Assuming you're in the USA and does not know how to assemble a computer, this computer at Best Buy is decent at $749.99: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1212192194580

Its Phenom X4 9550 quad core processor and 6GB of RAM will definitely be good for multitasking. However, its weak HD3450 video card is what will limit its gaming ability. The Radeon HD3450 cannot run games with an acceptable performance level, since it is a cheap "budget" video card primarily for HDTV decoding in home theatre computers and budget computers.

If you can build a computer then your choices are better.

              9600 has defective chips.

HD3650 blew away my old 9600XT and playable on many games. You can go up to 150 bucks on mid end HD4xxx series.

Assemble your own PC with brand names like cruical, asus, sapphire etc. BB pc machines uses shoddy parts.

              Cheers, Wizard

                Re: The Infamous eMachines T2245

He's referring to the NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT (or 9600GSO), which is much faster than the Radeon HD3650. The new Radeon HD4670 rivals the performance (source: http://en.hardspell.com/doc/showcont.asp?news_id=3884) of the 9600GT, while being slightly cheaper than the 9600GT. I know the GeForce 9600GT is much better than the Radeon HD3650, because I upgraded from a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3650 512MB DDR2 PCI-Express 16X video card to an EVGA NVIDIA e-GeForce 9600GT Superclocked 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express 16X video card and I felt a big performance increase.

Also, he's 12 years old! I don't know of any 12 year olds that can assemble a computer out of compatible computer components, since they are focused on other things in their young life.

                  Re: The Infamous eMachines T2245

Idk, I'm only 14 and I've built 6 computers (3 for me so far, 1 for my friend, 2 that I sold,)

Too bad the Phenom 9600 is defective, heard it has problems in 64bit. I thought it was such a good deal on newegg, a 9600 for 139 ! Then I learned they were defective , so I went with a modest (and much cheaper) 5000+.

Ohh yea, as for the Intel chip that was smoking in your computer, that was probalby the Northbridge. That could have been fried from short circuts, overheating, or, more likely, a bad psu like others have said. Things that are probalby salvagable=hard drive, cd/dvd drive, (perhaps,) pci cards, maybe even the processor. I have had mobos that exploded on me, and the procs were still good. Especially those old slot 1's, those were rocks!

more likely the southbridge let its smoke out.

In that case, the pci cards are probalby smoked

You could of went for the Phenom X4 9550, it is slightly slower than the Phenom X4 9600 and Phenom X4 9650 (9600 without the TLB bug), but it is $139.99 and the 9550 version doesn't have the TLB bug.
