    Foxconn 865PE7MF-SH caps

    Hi all,
I have this motherboards, I want to replace one of the caps beside the CPU, there are three on two sides of it. 680uf 4v. I do not have these, instead i have some 820uf 6.3v, the same size.
    Thank you.

u need to tell us what size and series are those or just post photos of the caps with the labelling clear on the photos. caps by the cpu have to be of the ultra low esr type or they will not work.

      Thank you for reply.
I have attached two photos showing clearly the caps. In fact just one among those small once is a bit swollen. The once i have are 820uf 6.3v Rubycon, the size is the same.
I had other one swollen, between PCI slot, i changed it, i had a few of them 1000uf 6.3v.

you should use polymers to replace those MFZ, anything taller could hit the heatsink - and it's a hot area anyway.

Yes, you 're right, those are a bit taller, the heatsink will not fit.
I have a few polymers around, are these good?

So, do i have to replace only the bad one? I could replace all three on that side. I have only four of them for now.
              Thanks

personally i would replace all of them, but if you only have 4 then replace the ones that look bad.

that row of 3, both outer ones look bad - the tops should be perfectly flat.

I will do once i will get a soldering iron. I had one but it broke yesterday. The soldering gun is useless. I ordered one from Amazon, a soldering iron.

yes that 60w iron will do just nicely for computer mobos.

and i see u have some ost caps near the cpu vrm. those have to go as well because ost is infamous for failing without any signs of bloating etc. u dont want to be scratching your head wondering why the board failed without any signs!!!

Yes, there are lots of them, ost, I know they have bad reputation, the good thing is that i have replacement for them all. I ll see now, if the soldering iron works fine i will replace them.

The job is done, replaced three of them with polymer, tested and working fine.
The problem is the polymer caps are a bit higher than the original once and the heatsink sits on them, there is any problem?
                        Thanks

yes, if the heatsink actually touches them then it's not going to be pressing against the cpu!

are u using the stock intel heatsink? it may also cook the caps due to conducted heat from the heatsink, making u having to the change the caps *again* a few years down the road. this is especially apparent if u use a prescott cpu. what cpu is it anyway? if its a p4 prescott 3.4ghz or faster or any pentium d cpu, i recommend u get a third party heatpipe cpu cooler to replace the stock cooler instead.

It is just flat the top of the CPU with the top of the caps.

It is a Pentium 4 531 CPU, it has a stock intel heatsink. Apparently never been cleaned since new. I will look for different heatsink. I do not want to invest much in it.

OMG!! that heatsink is so dusty, the dust bunnies look like either a giant beard and moustache or really think and bushy pubic hair. thank you for giving me nightmares!!
