Re: motherboard cap question
Technically, not quite.
But at high switching frequencies (around 100 KHz), they are pretty close.
Depends.
For the low side of the CPU VRM (i.e. CPU V_core), they *typically* are not good enough. This really depends on the board's vintage, though. This being a socket AM2 board, FR probably isn't fit for there but it *may* work (no guarantees if the caps won't be over-stressed or not, though).
For the high side of the CPU VRM (typically on the 12V rail), they may just be enough. But again, it depends on the board design. I have motherboards from around the same age use Chemicon KZE for the high side, and KZE is quite close to Panasonic FR spec-wise for certain cap sizes. Overall, though, the high side is not as stressed as the low side, so in many cases FR/KZE/ZL -class caps should be alright.
That said, you could also use larger-size FRs to get closer to the Panasonic FL and Chemicon KZG specs. Either higher voltage or higher capacitance (or both) a few notches.
You should see which model it is. Only the Bestec ATX-250-12E is dangerous without modifications. The Bestec ATX-250-12Z, ATX-300-12E, and ATX-300-12Z are good power supplies after a recap. In fact, very good. They will do their labeled ratings all day long. People often dismiss the stock OEM PSUs in these big-company PCs as junk - and that's not the case. Delta, Lite-On, Newton, Astec, HiPro, and Bestec make some damn good PSUs.
It was a bestec ATX-300-12E from a Gateway Media Center type system almost all the caps were bulged however it showed signs of overheating the inside was covered in dust (the owner didnt take very good care of top of the psu area, the rest was relatively clean) really stuck on there (caked on dust?) that's why i threw it away.
I don't like bestec very much ,i've had problems before (blowing up on me)with the ATX-250-12E, i do always try to save Delta's,Seasonic's,Lite-on and Hi-Pro (if possible) from OEm computers they are reliable.

Re: motherboard cap question
I've worked on both the ATX-300-12Z and ATX-300-12E models. The ATX-300-12Z is built a lot better, but it has that tan conductive crap glue that makes the recapping a nightmare. On the other hand, the ATX-300-12E that I worked on did not have that glue and was also housed in a clam-shell -type of case - really made things easy to work on without having to remove the board.
That's because the ATX-250-12E is their only problematic model. None of the other Bestec PSUs have that suicide-happy 2-transistor 5VSB circuit, so they are safe to use. In terms of build quality, I consider them as good as Delta, Lite-On, HiPro, and the rest of the OEM gang.Comment

by glovecapsHello,
I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.
My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.
The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this... -
by DocusHi everyone 😀,
I'm here today to ask for help with repairing the motherboard of a Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH.
To give you some context, I'm passionate about computer repair so much so that I've invested in a lot of tools and started practicing on dead and old hardware. I've been learning how to solder and desolder components, mostly focusing on phone repairs.
Recently, I bought a broken Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH for just €150, and there are two main reasons why I made this purchase:- I already own the exact same model, but its plastic chassis is badly damaged.

by ArchimedesSubject is a blank screen issue in HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D version laptop with motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02. Production year is 2012. This one is a 2nd hand motherboard which I could use it for few months only. Suddenly no output from the internal display and also no signal from HDMI port then Windows out of order after few boots.
Caps lock working normally and no HP's caps-lock warning blinks. Making a hard reset and replacing the RAM sticks or using different slots didn't help.
Fans are spinning. Blindly could install windows11 and got the device manager... -
by dragon3xHi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
power on.
Here are some examples :
(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
switching supply area).
(N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
than 6.3 V.)
1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
3300 microF/6.3 V. x 4 replaced by 3300 microF/6.3 V. (KYOCERA... -
by dhenionI'm working on my sister's laptop: Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 - The motherboard died so I replaced it.
The original board was:
ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 A
The replacement board is:
ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 B (identical except B vs A - I couldn't find an A board anywhere. Visually they are identical.)
It boots right up on the replaced motherboard and everything works fine on the new motherboard - but it won't run off battery. When I disconnect the charger it immediately dies. When I plug it back in and reboot the system - it still shows the battery at...1 Photo - Loading...
