    Sony Dream Machine recapped

Bought this thing back in 2004, used it for an alarm/radio for years, then put it in the garage in 2007 or so. Broke it open to see how it looked. Lots of YEC and Lelon caps. Strangely enough, I had enough spares lying around to recap it. Left a few small value caps on the board. Went OK, just a few snags. Even got a litte poly-mod in. It hasn't sounded so good in ages. Maybe I will go back and get the small ones later.

Holy crap, I think you are right. I am glad old age isn't affecting my memory.

Even though the date code on one of the PCBs look like an American format!

I wasn't willing to believe my memory was that bad. Look at the print date on the users manual. 2004!

Janome DC3050 Sewing Machine Pedal Resistance
              by CG2
OK, this is a long shot. I got this sewing machine cheap because it's end of line, ex-display, and had no pedal. The genuine pedal costs £60, while Ebay knock-offs go for around £15. So I went for the knock-off, it doesn't work, and I'm not sure whether it's the pedal or the sewing machine that has the problem.

Now this is an electronic machine, unlike the old fashioned sort where the pedal was a big resistor in series with the power to the motor. Here, the pedal is just (I think) a variable resistor fed with a 5 volt supply, and limited to a current of 5 milliamps. Assuming that...

              Sony KDL-46HX850 Can't upgrade/update firmware
              by dkneyle
Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...
