When I was recapping a Power Supply board, I noticed that some capacitors, it sits tight that you can't even move it and then there are some capacitors that has it's leads extended as each lead goes on the side of the IC it sits on top of but some of the capacitors when soldered to the board without any gaps seems to be slightly loose as you can push it a little even though it'll return to the original position, would that pose a problem or could it just be the leads are more flexible?

Actually being a little loose is probably a good thing - should mean less stress on the legs I guess. In any case it won't matter either way, assuming the leads are short (eg: capacitor NOT flapping around in the breeze) and they are soldered correctly.
As for capacitors mounted over the top of an IC? It depends how it was done. Kept short, possibly insulated with heatshrink if needed and soldered sensibly there should be no issue. Did it come like that from the factory? That sort of thing is not typical, though.

If they only move when you physically push them and dont move when you shake the board they should be fine, just check the solder joints and make sure that they are soldered in properly.Please Do Not PM My Page Asking For Help Badcaps Is The Place For Advise, Page Linked For Business Reasons Only. It's a Computer PSU daughterboard so I thought the vibration might be bad if it was slightly loose, it could just be the pins are not as stiff and not the actual cap itself as that part is solid. As for the capacitors mounted on top of the IC, it came like that from the factory and I didn't haven't made it to those caps yet... C303 is what I'm referring to.Comment

Won't be a problem. Heat is more likely to cause a problem (resulting in cracked joints) anyway.
Looks like a pretty old board. No wonder they have capacitors sitting over the IC. You wouldn't see that nowadays very often (if at all). I would take care if you replace those ones over the IC you don't short their leads to any IC pins.
Also not sure what kind of PSU it is, clearly this is part of a bigger system. This just looks like feedback\control or such. It's from 2000/2001 and is the daughter board that is part of a PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 450ATX PSU made by Win-Tact as the OEM. You're right care must be taken to replace the ones over the IC which is why I am doing the board a section at a time as I already finished recapping the main board. The daughterboard basically consists of Teapo's with the exception of the purple one which I haven't found a replacement for yet that is a Sanyo OS-CON 25v 2.2uF Polymer. The two above the IC and the two at C309 and C310 (small black ones) are all 50v 1uF with the former being Teapo and the later being PCE-TUR even though they all have the same voltage and capacitance rating but the C309 and C310 are mini sized while the space is actually for regular sized ones like the ones above the IC, they will be replaced with Rubycon YXJ's.Comment

by HittoWould you consider a slightly bulging capacitor defective if it measures perfectly and it is brand-new? To be honest, they are all equally like this: vent is not totally flat but they have very low E.S.R. and VLOSS is negligible.
So, everything seems perfect apart from the vent looking a bit "strange". They are genuine capacitors, BTW.
The bad thing is that they are 400V capacitors so testing them just to check how much they last would mean using them on the primary of a power supply, which means the risk of damaging the whole circuit.

by CG2I've got a dehumidifier that has stopped working. Plug it in, press the power switch, and it beeps 5 times. Nothing showing in the display (which is just two 7 segment displays) apart from the two decimal points flashing. The model is a MeacoDry Arete One 18L, which seems to be a rebadged Deye (all the boards are marked Deye). Here's what I've got so far (details in case anyone else in future should need them).

by Cappy OliganI'm new to electronic repair. Trying to troubleshoot a Dell monitor that only has an AC port for power. I'm concerned about safety and not getting shocked. Should I order an isolation transformer and plug in the monitor into that and proceed with testing the board inside? Or should I get a DC power supply and limit the amps and connect the voltage to a pin somewhere inside where 19V DC is first expected? Or both? Thanks.

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

Have a Samsung 2233SN with no CFL backlight. Testing with a flashlight, I can see the image is displayed, but the backlight fails after some seconds.
Sometimes, after being off for a while, the backlight will remain on for a couple minutes, but most of the times it fails immediately.
I tried to follow the guide present in this forum, but so far I haven't de-soldered any components. I need some advice on how to proceed to diagnose this display.
