Using a screw extractor on an iMac G5 motherboard to remove a damn T6 screw I don't have a tip for (smallest I have is T7) I slipped when the screw came loose and the extractor hit the cap pictured. Smooth move, huh?

Re: iOops!
Yep. I hear ya bros. I did buy a set of cheap crap but the torx bits stopped at T7. Just my luck I'd need a T6
Do you guys think I can sub a conventional electrolytic in its place at least for testing?Last edited by SteveNielsen; 04-25-2014, 10:55 AM.Comment

Re: iOops!
i used to do it all the time,
smd electrolytics are crap.
i used to just L-bend the legs on a decent cap & solder it in.
now i like to try & use tantalum smd caps if i can - because i'v salvaged a lot of them.
10uf 16v - perfect candidate for a nice black or yellow tant.Comment

Re: iOops!
I have a couple of these boards that I've scrapped. I'm sure I have one of those.<--- Badcaps.net Founder

Re: iOops!
That's cool and thanks. I'm sure I've got something I can use in my boxen o' shyte around here though. Using a tantalum hadn't occurred to me and I might even have one for this.
I'm just messing with this iMac cuz it was a dumpster find about two or three years ago and I'm just bored enough to finally get around to it. Any more to do with that probably belongs in another forum.Comment

Mounting and Handling Guidelines for TO220 TO220F TO247 Cases / Packages
The TO220, TO220F and TO247 are the popular packages for power devices because of their versatility and ability to dissipate moderate amounts of heat. This application note describes the basic guidelines for handling power MOSFETs in TO220, TO220 and TO247 packages shown in Figure 1. Please note that only mechanical and soldering guidelines are covered here. Additional precautions are required for isolating high voltage rated devices to meet safety regulations.

by ProttHello dear Badcappers,
I came across a PS5 that was longscrewed. The screw went through the HDMI IC (which I replaced + repaired the traces it damaged), however the screw also bend the board and slightly cracked it on the other side. It still seems like it could be fixable though as the area might not have lots of traces going through it (fingers crossed).
Can somebody, please, measure their board and tell me if my assumption of an inner short between the via and ground layer is correct? These 3 pads have almost no resistance. I would like to make sure those are not some data...2 Photos07-27-2024, 08:54 AM -
by zman78Hi All,
I have an LED Light array that had a built-in AC-DC 24v 45 watt power supply. The power supply failed so I desoldered the LED Light array power input wires from the power supply and then screwed it into barrel connector jack (ends still tinned with the original solder).
This is the barrel connect or jack https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q6YMM6F/
Then I bought an external 24Volt/3Amp power brick (with same size barrel connector output) and plugged it in.
Everything works fine, except that the screw-in barrel connector gets... -

by volinakisGUIDE TO USE DELL PFS EXTRACTOR or other extractors from BiosUtilities (my way)
1. Download BIOSUtilities (thanks to platomav) and move folder "BiosUtilities" to Desktop
https://github.com/platomav/BIOSUtilities
2. Install python 3.11.0 or higher (both versions for 32bit and 64bit)
3. Download Dell bios update from Dell site (in my example bios update for Dell Latitude 3420) and move it to "BiosUtilities" from Desktop.
4. RENAME update exe WHITOUT SPACES AND DOTS! In my example "Latitude_3420_Latitude_3520_1.37.0.exe" to "Latitude_3420_Latitude_3520_1_37_0.exe"...-
