    School computers seem questionable

At our school, the computers in both the library and one of the computer labs have been really unstable for a while.
They are all PIII Seanix TCO towers and all of them were bought around the same time. When I see the ones in the library odds are that at least one has hung and must be reset. Every so often I hear the "clank" of the hard drive parking and then spinning back up for no reason and sometimes with the clank the monitor flips out but immediately comes back. In the computer lab, the lab where graphics are most commonly done there have been times when you get video corruption and it gets worse and worse until the system must be reset.
Now I have no way to open these system or inquire on the conditions of the boards but from what I am observing this sounds like a bad PSU, right?
The problems also started on all the systems at around the same time (last year) and there has been no changes to the circuits these systems run on for years (1993 when the academic wing was expanded).

Volunteer to inspect them... I'm sure they wouldn't mind. Just be aware of the dangers inherent in opening a PSU casing.

The school computer technician might not even know about the 'bad caps' phenomena, so tell them about it and point them to badcaps.net for information.

I'm sure the technician would be happy to open up the PCs themselves and see if there are any bad caps on the motherboard, possibly the PSU as well (provided the mains lead is removed). You could volunteer to probe one of them with an oscilloscope and see if there is severe ripple, I guess.

Knowing a school though, the staff there are probably less computer-literate than many of the students! At my school, they were so concerned about viruses and inappropriate material that they actually opened up all the machines, disconnected the floppy drive cables and then padlocked them shut again!

You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

Every computer (and I mean every) in our school has deepfreeze installed and the bios is locked.
I asked to have one opened and I was given a firm no.

Just put in a request to your schools administration asking if you can have the systems when they decide to replace them because they "went bad."

            I'll have to ask roxie.
Yes, I do know the district's head computer tech on a first name basis.

Hello, a bit silly question here.
I work at a school. we have IT class for computer assembling in a technical highschool and we kind of need more hardware for practicing.
Computers we bought in 2019 had unsuficient motherboards for our regular clases so they were replaced before going online with computers for the first time and licences transfered to new motherboards. they are "windows pro for school" so as a school we are allowed to do that, we just can't have 2 computers with the same licence. So i have a stockpile of unused motherboards. Now that cpu's for them are a...

The RT8015B RT8015BGQW RT8015BGSP are high efficiency synchronous, step down DC/DC converter. Its input voltage range is from 2.6V to 5.5V and provides an adjustable regulated output voltage from 0.8V to 5V while delivering up to 3A of output current.

The internal synchronous low on resistance power switches increase efficiency and eliminate the need for an external Schottky diode. The switching frequency is set by an external resistor. The 100% duty cycle provides low dropout operation extending battery life in portable systems. Current mode operation with external compensation allows...
