Unrecognized component marked on the board as capacitor

    Hi All,
I have 2 unknown (to me) components on the board - one designated as C1 the other as C160, suggesting that they are capacitors. See pictures. I have never seen capacitors like that. Both of them are shorted, none of them has any markings. The board comes from a commercial (heavy road planning equipment) GPS unit. If they are capacitors, they shouldn't be shorted, suggesting that they are faulty. Have no idea about their value. They both have something that appears as 2 blue bands. Any help will be enormously appreciated.

They are feed-through emi filters they will check shorted from end to end, the capacitor is between the end and the center
    Maruwa CTH or TNH73 Series
Best guess on part number TNH73R2A104S15A

Thank you for your fast answer! Since I posted my question, I tested them further and discovered that indeed, they show as 2 capacitors with common ground in each package, both reading on the capacitor tester as 5 nF each end. I learned something new today .

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

          Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board
          by howardc64
All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
          • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
          • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

          IC2960 for A Board - Panasonic TH-P42X10Z Plasma Television
          by dom.true
          Hi Folks,

I have a Panasonic TH-P42X10Z Plasma Television (2009-era; New Zealand model).

This set has proven to be extremely reliable throughout its +16-year lifespan. However, late last year, when going to use the TV, I noticed a 9-blink red LED error code on the front of the set after the television failed to turn on. A quick Google search revealed that this indicates a problem with the set’s main A-board.

After opening up the set and giving the board a thorough test with my digital multimeter, I found that one of the integrated circuits on the board...

          Tantalum capacitor burning out
          by joetristan
          Hello,
I’m using a 10 µF, 20 V tantalum capacitor as a decoupling capacitor across a 5 V supply. When I power the circuit, the capacitor burns out.

At first, I assumed the tantalum capacitor was defective and replaced it, but the new one burned out as well when the circuit was powered.

I then replaced the tantalum capacitor with a 10 µF, 63 V electrolytic capacitor. This time, the capacitor did not fail after powering the circuit.

I do not understand why the tantalum capacitor burns up?
