    No Way!!! An Sgi?!??!?!?!

While assisting a person who was having troubles getting his Silicon Graphics 1100 server to power on, he gave me some details that made my face go white and I almost died of heart failure:

upon a very close examination of the motherboard, it appears that some of the caps *might* be fried. the ones in question are the ones immediatley behind the serial and HD15 ports. THere are 6 of them, arranged 3 to a row, and blue in color. They are 1500uF caps. The tops are slightly bulged and one shows POSSIBLE signs of leakage of some material. All other caps on the mobo appear fine.
I have asked for photos (which I will link to on this thread) so we can see what exactly is going on.

But from SGI?... Shame on you!

        a link back to neko!
Well, I guess a few systems have the same demise.

Don't you just hate it how a lack of sleep can hype you up over very little.

SGI has been going through rough times for 10 years and more. Strange to think that they were a high flier back in the early 90s.

They had great systems. Pretty much a supercomputer in a desktop.

Their demise was in part with their expensive systems and the fact that normal pc's were becoming good enough to be considered cheap options to getting an sgi.
when the first good 3D cards hit the pc market. They were screwed.

the evolution of nvidia products can be partially attributed to ex-sgi employees.
