    Rubycon date codes?

    Hey all.

So finally I am able to purchase items off eBay with my PayPal account. I ordered some Rubycon capacitors to get started on recapping the vast piles of computers I have lying around.

I ordered some MBZ and YXG series caps. I know the MBZ series is discontinued and only realised that after the items had shipped that they'll be old stock. But, and if I am correct, I didn't know they'd be about about 6 years old! And 7 years old for the YXG series (see attachment). Does that still make them OK to use?

    They're probably fake.

The font quality is bad and they're usually not black, and the plastic should be molded better (you see some white thing on the first cap coming from under the plastic sleeve)... don't see the top but if they're real Rubycon they should also have a K on top.

Buy from genuine companies, Rs-components, mouser , farnell/newark/element14 or from a few ebay sellers that are tested in time by other members here.

Or if the shipping fee is not too much, get capacitors from the Badcaps store, at least you know it's original.

I sell capacitors from time to time on eBay, extra capacitors I'm left with before making a new big order, but I don't advertise my sells here.

If money is an issue (as in 8$+ is too much for shipping), I may be able to help you out if you want with a few capacitors, I could mail you some for the Farnell price + about 2-3$ for stamps and envelope.

      Rubycon date codes?

Hi, mariushm. Thank you for your response.

I have attached another photo of the tops of the caps. They have 'K's... but the one doesn't look as legit as the other. I wouldn't be surprised if they are fake .

I may just take you up on your offer. Shipping cost isn't a major issue but I would like to keep it as low as possible.

        Yeah, they're fakes.

Sure, if you need something PM me and I'll let you know what I have already here or what I can order. I mostly have right now Panasonic FM, FR and FC and Nichicon HM and HN, all of these are excellent for power supplies, motherboards, monitors etc.

I don't bother with series discontinued years ago like Rubycon MBZ, as the current new series are almost as good as those and not so problematic.

If I don't have something already, I can get anything that's on http://ro.farnell.com (use http://uk.farnell.com if it's easier for you, but the prices are a bit different between site versions) and send it to you at the same price that's on site (+24% VAT, I don't own a company so I pay VAT) and an extra 2-3$ for the postage like I said.

You can use Google to convert between RON and USD, you just type in the search box 10 RON to dollars or something like that.

i doubt those are fakes.newer mbz/mcz are black.
          yxg was always black afaik.
if fakes someone got the right bungs.

They aren't fakes. The metal cans are smooth/shiny, grabbing a few rubys here, and comparing the bungs, they are legit! Also, some of my rubys have smeared text, but all cap manufacturers have that happen sometimes.

              Re: Rubycon date codes?

I purchased the caps from egekecu who seems to be a trusted seller according to some on this forum. However, the computer for which I purchased these caps doesn't quite work as well as I think it should. So either the caps are a bit not-as-great-as-they-should-be, or there are other things to fix on the board.

I think my next purchase of capacitors will be from a reputable supplier.

They are real. Did you recap the entire board? or just the bulged ones?
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

                  Hi, c_hegge,

I did replace all the large caps, however, there are still a few 10uF/22uF caps dotted around the board that I haven't replaced yet. It has been suggested to me that these might be causing some issues for the board. I shall replace them as well and see if it improves.
