    Replacement for KGM ?

So I have been looking for replacements for Kmg 16V 100uF 5x11, they are rated for 110 mArms and a tan value of 0.20.

I've been looking at Rubycon Px 16V 100uF 5x11, rated for 130 mArms and a tan value of 0.20.

Only thing I perhaps don't like is that the Px is rated for only 1000 hours.
Should I worry about that ? the Px will be used on a mb right next to the pcie graphics card so they will be hot.

Anyone know of another series with a tan of 0.20 but with perhaps 2000 or more endurance time ?

Pm is extremely low impedance, I need more of a general purpose type.

Fine then. Just use Nichicon VZ.

Vz is also rated for 1000 hrs just like Px.

Well those are the only ones I have off the top of my head to offer.
            What about panasonic FM?

Think Vx or Px will have to do, can't find any with same specs but higher hrs rating - looks like 5-6mm caps are only rated for 1000 hrs.

They can be rated at a longer life, like the Nichicon PM.

I think the PM will be fine...

I measured some Kmg in circuit and they all show up between 0.77 and 2.04, as esr is not available in their datasheet I do not know what their normal is as only a tan value of 0.20 but I think a esr of 0.35 for the Pm is too low.

KMG doesn't list ESR because it's a GP series. Replacing a GP cap with a "low ESR" cap is not a problem in 99.99% of circuits. It's highly unlikely anything on a motherboard will complain about ESR being too low.

UCC KYA has 5000 hours for 5mm diameter 16V and up, and is available in 100uf 16v in 5x11.

I have allways chosen caps that are very close with the originals cap impedance no matter what - that is same or just below the original caps impedance.

Never thought changing a gp cap with a low esr cap would be a smart thing to do!

Where are these Kya's sold ?

Hmm, that's actually a good question, neither Mouser nor Digikey stock them. Back to the data sheets.

For these small caps, I am 100% confident you won't have any problems with low ESR cap replacements. Most of these caps filter the outputs of linear regulators, so as long as the capacitance is the same (or even slightly higher) and the ESR is not higher, any cap will work. I have doubled and tripled the capacitance on such caps (while also lowering the ESR substantially) on quite a few boards and it never really mattered. All boards worked fine (and still do) afterwards.

The only reason manufacturers use GP caps such as UCC KMG is probably because they are just a tiny bit cheaper than low ESR ones. So Nichicon PM will work fine.

I did buy the Px series and will use them for now, I guess the 1000 hrs lifetime of these will still be good as I guess they will see max 40-50 degress and 2000 hrs lifetime should be possible. By that time the mb will be replaced anyway.

If it should backfire I will use the Pm.

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?

                              Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
                              by ezenia
                              Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...

i have a 2020 macbook pro 13" A2251 with 820-09149 logic board so i found an issue with chip labeled U6903 according to schem. boardview using flexBV software, so i removed it from the board and the issue im having is that the chip says "07A08FI ELC180" on top of it but when searching for a replacement chip, i can find tons of identical looking chips that also have "ELC180" printed on them but the first set of digits is never the same so im trying to find out if i need this exact chip with these same numbers as mine and if not which ones are compatible as a replacement?...

Operating caps well below rated voltage
                              by Perry Babin
I think this has been answered but I couldn't find the thread.

Someone asked me if it would harm a capacitor (10F [not a typo], 24v) if it was operated on nothing more than 12v.

So, I ask... Does it change any of the capacitor's characteristics/parameters/? in any way if it is never operated near rated voltage?

If operated for years at 1/2 rated voltage, does it accept full rated voltage like it would if it had always been operated at the higher voltage?

                              Or would it require reforming?

I have a klipsch kda-500 that would turn on and allow me to get into the web management but it was picking up a lot of noise from audio sources so i decided to replace the smd caps on the power supply along with radial one. Some one was in here before me and they basically burned the bottom side of the traces off for the radial cap but i was able to repair it without any real problem. I thought i did a good job sourcing out replacement caps but apparently not and now i can't get the power supply to turn on it just constantly try's to keep turning on. Attached is a picture of the power supply before...
