    Looking for a 2nd opinion

    Hi guys,

I'm about to buy 2 TVs. Both of them are not working. They've the 'famous' 2 secs to black.

My question is: is it really worth it? I don't mean the price, I mean if you think it'd be possible to fix them. Nothing is impossible but I won't worth it if I had to spend too much to fix them.
I know if I do, I can sell them and get three times what I'll pay for them.

Both are plasma: Philips 42FD9932 and JVC GM-V42UG.

    Thanks.

My 2 seconds to black troubleshooting guide has NO advice for plasmas.

Since I have been participating here, my observation is that plasmas are a much more difficult to repair compared than lcds. They often require complete board replacements (not component level repairs) and only a very few are fixable with "simple" bad caps or blown fuses.

In addition, the resolution for 42FD9932 is only 480p and looks to be 11 years old. The JVC GM-V42UG is also 480p and 8 years old.

I, personally, would pass on both. Replacement boards may be difficult to find for both. Of course, research both on the Internet and maybe both are simple cap and fuses replacements?

      Thanks retiredcaps for you answer.

I'd add a Sony PFM32C1 to the list too.

I know they're old but I can sell them anyway in my country. I've been doing a little research and the boards are a little expensive and it'd take a month to arrive.
I don't know much about plasmas, that's why I'm asking. You're probably right, maybe I should pass.

The other potential problem with old plasmas is burn in. The screens might have the 4:3 bars or 16:9 bars burnt in. Newer plasmas have features to reduce the chance of burn in.

          Examples of burn in

          http://www.plasmasaver.com/burnin.html

          http://samsungplasmatvfaq.com/index....mage_retention

The other issue to think about is what kind, if any, type of warranty do you offer? If none, no worries for you. If you offer any kind of warranty, will you be confident enough in the replacement parts lasting?

I have never seen an issue such as this one. horizontal lines across the monitor in a consistent manner. I am really interested to get to the bottom of this and I'd value any input from the community.
There are three separate PCB parts attached to each other. They function as SMPS, backlight driver and main board.
I checked the all three blue PCBs: SMPS outputs 19V, PWM controller + mosfets without anomalies, main board has 3V, 5V, 10.5V and 19V present. Crystals output the right clockspeed. This is to be expected as the monitor turns on.

i was a proud owner of a new lenovo y560 laptop
for me it was a very new experience to use a laptop . i had used only desktop PC many times. i enjoyed playing games on my laptop very much. This pleasure lasted only till the day there was a electric power cut followed by a power surge at my home and while i was playing a game (crysis 2) . when the power cut happened the laptop Operating System went automatically to power saving mode...so the heatsink cooling fan stopped spinning and then ( a few seconds later ) as soon as the electric supply resumed and power surge happened the laptop shifted...

HP Omen 17-w104no dead PCH? Second opinion
              by peku
              Hi,

              First some laptop info:
              Model: HP Omen 17-w104no
              Motherboard: Quanta G38D
              CPU: Core i7 I7-6700HQ (I think?)
              GPU: nVidia GTX 1070

What happened: plugged in an old smartwatch for charging/syncing after years of no use, after a while computer just shut down, leaving a little white light at the power button. Pressing power after that, nothing happens. After opening up case and disconnecting/connecting battery, not even that white light appears, no light on the charging connector either.

              I've tried diagnosing with a multi-meter...
