Yes, a home environment is not very stressful. If they can't handle that, they're pretty bad.

So because they fail in a home environment, they are bad?. Don't you just have a oem psu, like most of the psu's are?.....It's an average ok cap and not cheap or something. And what is your knowledge about electronics in general? Build and refurbished a lot?

At least the capacitors that came with the PSU were OK to begin with, rather than fakes, pieces of wire.

But I agree, I replace the lot too.

Just wanted to chime in here and mention that I have run into a lot of dead 47uF/35V Teapo 6mm caps in a hot area of a specific model of ATX server power supply. I have also sporadically have run into dead 1000uF/16V Teapos in another hot area of revision 1 of that same supply model. In revision 2 the designers replaced them with polymer caps and Sanyo electrolytics but still missed the 6mm caps; spent a while debugging the extreme voltage sag under load on all rails before I figured out it was the active PFC control caps that were dead Never overlook those tiny caps as a possible culprit!

The larger Teapo caps were all OK; apparently the little 6mm and 10mm Teapos really hate heat.

In my opinion 3300uF is quite enough for 99% of psus. You should make sure that the esr is low enough and not too low for smps though.

Yeah that would be cool, and worth mentioning. You'd probably need at least 2,000 though to meet minimum quantity? Unfortunately there isn't as much of a need for 4700μF caps

We should add that to our custom order thread. I should also mention it to the sales rep I sent an inquiry to for possibly getting the custom manufacture done by Nichicon, if they ever get back to me. They would be a universal replacement in the sense that they'd be good for 2200uf/3300uf caps as well.

Yeah you're right, I've never seen quality 4700μF in 10mm either. 4700μF 6.3V is probably possible, that's all you need for the minor rails, not sure what else you'd need a low ESR 4700μF D10mm cap for

6.3v or 10v, either is good for PSU 3.3V or 5V rail... 10mm because there are no Japan-branded 10mm versions, and you can't always fit 12.5mm in place of 10mm caps. I wonder what the difference in rippleis at full load between the two values.

I don't think I've found one defective if you mean failed, I've seen some possibly getting close though such as 0.11-0.15Ω ESR on 2200μF. Most of them bulge when horribly failed

Good 10mm 4700uF caps would be nice though, no?
    4700μF 10V in what size? Because I have a few 4700μF 10V Chemi-Con KY 12.5mm x 35mm for when I rarely come across them

I don't think 3300μF is a bad choice because with such low loads nowadays on the 5V and 3.3V, I can't see how 3300μF wouldn't be enough

Edit: I've also seen a failed Teapo SC 4700μF 10V before, fairly recently. It was on the 5V rail very close to two coils. It was bulging and read 990μF and 1.26Ω ESR

Wow, so they really ARE 4700uF... And there I replaced a 4700uF with 3300uF...

Anyone interested in a custom order of 10mm 4700uF caps ...

I've measured these before and had it documented. Teapo SC 4700μF 6.3V, manufactured June, 2006. Measured 4576μF
And Teapo SC 4700μF 10V, manufactured February, 2007. Measured 4602μF

Teapo is usually OK but like I said but I prefer Nichicon, Chemicon, Panasonic and Rubycon. If there's Teapo in equipment, I leave them in there, as long as the device works fine
I still check sometimes the caps. If they bulge, I will definately replace them.

Does WCAP-ATG5 has similar or better quality than smahwa capacitor?
    by chth96
I want to replace samhwa RG 250v 1uf capacitor which has no ESR value and has capacitance less than 280pf.
It is possible to purchase WCAP-ATG5 in local electronic shop.
But I want to know that whether WCAP-ATG5 capacitor has similar or better quality than smahwa capacitor or not.
Is there anyone who has experience to replace any bulge or faulty cap with cap from Wurth Elektronik?

    RTX 3080 FE Identifying capacitor
    by Prolog
Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
(yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

I have found the board schematic (attached), but there does not seem to be a boardview available. I have never...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
    by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

KDM 480W PSU upgrade succes! (opinions?)
    by bauto601
Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish....

If I replace with inferior capacitor, Is it No harm to other IC components at all?
    by chth96
I replaced some capacitor which is located on optical pickup pcb which is shown in the table below(PCB #2).Because it have been out of order.
Now,It works very well,But I just have found that all caps (6svpc100my and other part number as well) ,which is shown in the table below, has ultra-high ripple current spec.
It is not able to obtain any capacitor which can be a substitute for this ultra-high ripple current nichicon capacitor.
So I replaced it with samxon and rubycon's general capacitor(GP,YXA series).
I know that these capacitor will not last as long as nichicon capacitor...
