Bad Biostar 790gx Replacement for OST RLP 6.3 1000uf

    Hello,

Started having odd lock ups and such on my 3.5 year old computer. After doing the regular check hard drive run diagnostic on each subsystem and having then come up clean, I started looking over the board and power supply.

Board has at least 2 bulgy capacitors near the north bridge (i'll get some snaps later).

They are OST RLP series 6.3 volts at 1000uf, there are also some OST RLX 6.3 volt at 1000uf as well.

The RLPs seemed to have been used in a high heat area (right next to NB and processor).

What would be a good capacitor to replace them? What would be a good one to replace the RLX units? I'm in the US.

Nichicon HM, HN, HZ series, Rubycon ZLH,ZLJ are good replacements.

Badcaps store has them (check the main page). If you don't want to order from this site for some reason, digikey.com and newark.com should have them.

Keep in mind you should all capacitors in that area near the two swollen capacitors even if they don't look bad. Some just go visually bad sooner than others but they may all be bad inside.

Specs for the rls caps are

      8x12
      Impediance: 0.072
      Ripple 760

Cosndering ordering these zljs from digikey. Ive been looking though the store here for the Nichicon but they dont have the specs listed for the capacitors....Or even a link to the datasheet..

      what im currently considering:

Yeah, those ZLJ will work but digikey doesn't have any in stock.

here's what it will work (some of the below may be rated for 10v, that's perfectly fine, going up in voltage is ok)

Which ones on the badcaps store would you reccommend.

The impeidance of those 10v caps seems to be different...will that matter?

Impedance should be equal or lower.

Lower is better but you shouldn't go the extreme way.. I mean sometimes it's not good to go for example for polymer capacitors that have 0.009 ohm impedance when your old capacitors were 0.072 ohm
The ones I recommended have an impedance between 0.018 - 0.03 which is half the old capacitors' impedance, so it's not very low to be potentially bad for the board.

From the Badcaps store, you should go with the Nichicon HM or HN 1000uF 6.3v/10v from this page: https://www.badcaps.net/pages.php?vid=23

I wouldn't go for HZ, it's a bit too low impedance.

No, their site is down at the moment to me as well.

                Here's all the datasheets : ftp://helpedia.com/pub/temp/datashee...tors/Nichicon/

                e-hm.pdf and e-hn.pdf are the HM/HN datasheets.

Can you be more specific with the model? I'm looking at the Biostar TA790GXA2:

I see 3 Chemicon KZGs near the ATX connector that should be replaced. I see 12 of what I assume to be OST caps throughout the board that I would replace.

They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

If you look at the board (sorry im on a chromebook, no photo editing software to speak of)

the 2 caps that are bulging are between the northbridge heatsink and the top stick of memory. I plan to start out replacing those 2, as those are the only ones with apparent damage.

The cap between the North Bridge and Top PCI express is also getting replaced. (3 total all located in the same area)

I'm presuming these are dying due to being located in a high heat area. I also presume they regulate and provide power to the North Bridge (which could account for the weird behavior I'm getting)

My friend who has the real nice solder station is out of the country right now, so in the long term, I may replace more (I ordered 10 total, I guess i should have ordered more). If I can replace those 3 and end up with a stable system, ill continue with replacement.

That being said, if I can change my order here, I may just order the whole set at this point. Will those HM caps work okay for the OST RLX 6.3v 1000uf?

So, I have that exact MB and popped a cap. I also noticed a bunch of bulging ones so I thought I'd go and replace several of them. I don't have an ESR meter, yet, but have been looking for some schematics to build one just to make sure they're all good but from what I read, the brands on this board aren't exactly quality and the price of a cap is nothing.
So, would it be over-kill to replace the caps with Aluminum Organic Polymer? Seems that I could match the specs (or at least what specs I can find of the OST and RLT brands on this board). Any concerns or comments about doing that?
