Samsung LED TV Suspected Faulty Caps

    Hi All,

My Samsung UE22C4000 LED TV won't turn on. The front panel LED blinks and the TV tries to switch on however it resets itself and the cycle of blinking and trying to switch on restarts again.

I suspect a fault in a capacitor in the PS however on inspection, the caps look fine and are all in tolerance when checked via meter. The only 2 caps which seem to be problematic are 2 450v 53uf 10x50 Rubycon KXW 105`c resoviour capacitors placed in parallel just after the input rectifier. Their capacitance are slightly on the low side at 47uf each.

These caps seem to be custom made for space restraints however I have found replacements online. I'm still not sure if these are the actual fault or not as all other components seem to be ok.

Could these caps with this slightly lower reading be the cause?

I doubt it. Rubycon is a very good brand of capacitors and 47uF is very close to the specified 53uF, when it comes to high voltage capacitors.

Also, the capacitance doesn't tell you much about the capacitor. The ESR value is more important but you can't determine that with a simple multimeter.

Please post what's written on the capacitors in the power supply - some capacitor series from certain brands are most susceptible to going "weak" and cause problems, even when they're not visibly bad or showing good capacitance values.

Welcome to the forum- Please update the mains voltage in your profile.
We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

It will be useful if you can say a bit about yourself - skills tools etc.

Can you try and put the model number in the thread title

Is the blink sequence always the same - how many blinks.

+1. I have measured a few working large filter caps (good and bad brands) and virtually all of them are slightly lower than their stated sleeve value, but will within 20%. I have used 3 different multimeters and all give consistent results.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

          Hi All,

          Thanks for your reply.

I'm attaching the photo's of the power supply and the circuitry inside the TV. I've noticed that the TV LED blinks 3 times and resets. After a few resets, the LED remains steady for a couple of seconds and restarts the 3 blinks cycle. I'm not too sure if this is some kind of code or error alert.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or thoughts.

It is not uncommon for super slim high voltage capacitors to have unusual uF ratings.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Try reseating all the cables then switch on again.

Have you checked the 3 fuses on the power supply board.
Can you post clear pictures of the front and back of the main board.
