    Is recap needed?

First i would like to say hello to everyone as this is my first post.

I bought recently Asus A7N266-VM board to build a office/internet rig for my father. This board is rev. 1.05 and it has Rubycon caps around NB,CPU and AGP and OST caps around SB and RAM.

Do i need to change OST caps, none of them have bulges but i have a problem with Primary IDE controller as it corrupts data, on secondary controller everything works fine, and should i change cap with some kind of a dent shown on a pic.

    First of all....Welcome aboard.

That one cap with the dent makes me wonder how it happened. Something fishy there. I'm not up on the Asus boards, but give a little time and the rest of the crew I'm sure will be of more assistance. The Rubys are good, not sure about the OST. There is a sticky hanging around in this part of the forum that you posted this thread. It has the low-down on caps.

On the IDE controller corrupting data.....hmmmm....only time I saw that was, seemingly, with a bad cable. I would try a new cable...not sure if thats an option for you.

Take heart though....the smart ones will be along shortly. All I do is

    cheers.

It look like it was done by screwdriver or some tool, i bought this board with this "gift".

No it is not a bad cable, when i connect hdd and dvd-rom to secondary ide with that same cable everything works fine. I also checked all solder points of primary ide connector and everything looks ok.

My Asus A7V266-E also has some OST 6.3V 1000uF caps, none of them bulge but 2 of them (near southbridge, and DIMM) are leaking at the edge( white electroyte, so hard to see!!!) They even test good on dick ESR meter.

Once i replace them, the mobo can boot again.

The Ruby's are probably still good, well maybe not the dented one, but I'd just go ahead &replace them all... I mean you'd already be doing a recap & it would probably only take a couple extra minutes. You'd also know that you're starting out with new components.

quecoo t12-952 Recap psu help needed
            by bord
Got a soldering station with an internal psu (mains to 24V) which need to be recapped because the caps are all the dodgy "Yungli" brand with no series markings.
The biggest cap at the bottom of the pic looks like a bulk cap (400V 33uF), the 2 caps at the top (35V 680uF), a small one just next to a heatsink on the left (50V 22uF), the 33uF and 680uF caps are marked with "low esr".

Problem is that I can't get any low esr series cap in stock to replace the 400V 33uF from the local Farnell, only general purpose series available. The only option which seems...

            ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap
            by momaka
Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

no-name Radeon 9600 XT recap and cooler
            by momaka
I've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.

This one was actually suggested to me by ChaosLegionnaire....
