Re: Specs for Nichicon HN 820uf/6.3v, ***8x20mm***
Appears to be a custom ordered size that only came in one or a small few sizes.
They don't list custom orders in their catalog so no data sheets.
I don't think they are polymer.
All Chemicon's polymers begin with a 'P' last I checked.
And on small caps sometimes they skip the vents.
Use the thumb-rules I gave for Vcore caps earlier and it will be fine.
I would be more worried about those KZG's,, but then again for all I know the TMV is a custom sized KZG... So ???
There was also a TMZ about that time which I think only came in one or two sizes and no data sheet exists.
People questioned if they were fake until I came across this in an ad.

these are wet lytics. the smaller 4V ones don't have any top vent, but the larger ones (8mm dia) do have the typical nippon/united chemicon vent.
i'm gonna try to snap some pics of these.. the ones on the Biostar board (vcore) were blown (rubber bung pushed out)Comment

If you are asking if you can use Samxon GC in place of the 1000uf/16v KZG I would say yes as long as they physically fit where you want them to. If that is not what your asking then ask the question again in more detail.Comment

i've seen those TMV and TMZ on older (Socket A) ASRock boards (6.3V 1000uF) and on my much newer Abit IP35P (LGA775) and Biostar GF7025-M2 TE (AM2) (both 4V 680uF IIRC)

I've also remember seeing TMZ on an Asus [YUK!] P4P800SE that I 'flipped' [bought-sold] a few years ago.
I remember because that was the first I knew of their existence.
Probably seen them other places I don't remember any more.

I was talking about TMZ.
I've never seen a real live [or dead] TMV I don't think.

Here's that picture again. I've highlited the problem caps. Note: This is not my picture. These caps appear to be just fine. I'm using it to show what/where is bad.
The taller ones are the KZG's, the little guys are TMV's. I attached a close-up of both of them previously, and now am just looking for a good replacement for the TMV's.Comment

Re: Specs for Nichicon HN 820uf/6.3v, ***8x20mm***
The 8 'little guys' are in Vcore.
You could use 8x 680uF[enough] or 820uF[better] polymers and as long as you choose ones with the ESR at 0.010 ohms or less it will work out fine.
[Not sure if height is an issue so check that in addition to diameter.]
The common sizes of polymers like those are not that expensive anymore and they'll last much longer.
For the KZG:
Rubycon MBZ, MCZ
Nichcon HM, HN [but not w/ 2001-2004 date codes]
Sanyo/Suncon WG
Panasonic FL, FJ
NIC Components NRSK, NRSJ
Samxon GD, GC

Hah!So by the sound of it, I could use the same polymers for the three boards in this thread then?

I dunno.
If that's what was said then yes.

I can't keep what you are doing straight when you mix projects in one thread.

Can someone with an ESR meter give us an idea of where TMZ falls into? I've got a small bag full of the black/gold ones.
PCBONEZ - your explanation of the theory behind VRMs and Polys was quite lucid and easy to understand. For this, I thank you.
For the record, KZH is a reliable series from UCC, and is usually found in PSUs.Comment

PCBONEZ - ditto - very much appreciated your VRM explanation.
I'm confused as to why tmZ keeps getting brought up? I might have missed a similarity further up, but the ones I was asking about were tmV. Someone clue me in...Comment

Koshin also has a KZH.
TMZ 1000uF 6.3v 8x11.5mm reads 0.03 ohms.
The board had memtest run on it for several hours it so it's not in need of being reformed before a good measurement.

by DrewPhillipsHello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.
The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...-

Howdy folks,
I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated. While from a practical standpoint it's not worth...-

by nick3092I recently acquired a set of Bose Roomate speakers from the mid to late 80's. Basically the right speaker cabinet is completely passive, and the left one has the power transformer and amplifier circuit in it. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to see what the circuit looked like. Looks like they used all Nichicon VX (2x 4700uF/16v for smoothing off the bridge rectifier), a couple random Nichicon SE series sprinkled on the board, and what really caught my eye - 2 yellow sleeved Nichicon caps (both 1uF/50v with no real series marking. Below are pictures of the caps. The only thing not shown in these...

by chth96When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.
Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.
Rubycon YK DataSheet (b...-

by quicknameI'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.
Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.
I decided to verify that the batteries were... - Loading...
