    First time capping questions

    Hi and thanks in advance.

I have a dell optiplex 745 - read others on this forum with same issues. I do see at least one cap that is bulging with a tiny yellow stuff coming out so I'm assuming that's my issue. I troubleshooted it this way so please confirm my thinking that it's the caps: will not post - tried re-seating cards with no joy, not one beep (ram) but a buzzing noise. video card works fine on another dell.
fan on psu running and cpu fan so I'm assuming it's the board.

    2. read the faq but did not see what size tip I need to use. the station I'm buying is a Hakko 937. there are three sizes 900, 907, and 908. someone here recommended a chisel tip. What do the numbers mean, which will work, and do I need a chisel tip?

    3. Should I replace every single cap on the board while I'm at it? still not sure which caps I need my 6.3v 2200uf ones look the most bulged.

    thanks a bunch

2 - Get the 907 or 908 iron. The tips are a matter of personal preference. I prefer a 2.4mm chisel tip for cap work. Others may prefer different tips. My suggestion would be to get a few and see which you like best. Don't get super-tiny tips. They aren't large enough to hold enough heat to melt the solder on thicker boards.

    3. It's usually not necessary to replace every cap on the board. Most boards use a variety of brands and series. It may only be necessary to replace the "bad" brands. Some people choose to leave the "bad" brand caps if they are small, or in an area that doesn't see much stress. Other people choose to replace all the "bad" brand caps regardless of size. Replacing "good" brand caps that aren't having any issues won't do any good, and may actually do harm, as there is always some risk involved when soldering a board. This is especially true when you are just starting out.

Gaming Laptop Zephyrus S17 TFT not detected every time !
      by titomno2
      Hi guys,
I post my problem here because I think it could be a capacitor related issue (Asus support on this particular subject is non-existing).
So the computer is a Zephyrus-S17-GX735LXS-26T and the strange behavior is seen.
On cold start most of the time the internal screen is detected and a picture it works fine until shutdown, sleep or deep sleep.
Then the screen won't work for a long period of time.
If I wait 1 or 2 hours it work again most of the time.
When it doesn't work the batterie indicator blink 3 times white stop and the same schematic is repeated...

      Vizio M65-C1
      by mrtek
      Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

Adding a clock battery to action camera to retain date&time when changing batteries Campark X25
      by flat-earther
I have a cheap action camera with an annoying trait, every time I change batteries the date & time gets reset and I have to set it again.

To solve this problem I want to add a small internal battery inside it which will keep supplying power to the camera for a while while I change batteries so the date & time is retained.

I have opened the camera and I think there is enough room to add something inside to accomplish this:

The camera is powered by a 3.7V nominal single cell lithium ion battery.
So I need to connect another battery in...

HP Pavilion dm4-1065dx long time to get the power led on
      by OscarAV
      Hello,

I just came here to see if someone has had the same problem I have, and if he or she solved It, to know how to do It.

I have made a quick search for my laptop but I have not seen anything similar.

I have an old laptop, an HP Pavilion dm4-1065dx which takes a lot of time to be ready to start if the laptop has been unplugged for a while. It has no battery. The battery failed long time ago. It needs to be plugged to work. But as I said, It can take a lot of time until the charging led gets on, and I can switch on the laptop. I am using an external monitor...

      Acer Alienware Nitro 5 (GH51G LA-L181P Rev: 1C) & Dell Alienware M15 (GDP50 LA-k452P Rev:1) - Both Shorted PCH (SRKMA)!
      by reessi
      Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

      I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...
