    Favourite Bulk Capacaitors

    Hi Guys,

Just repaired a Turntable for audio HiFi, The Panasonic FC series capacitor is 3mm to tall. What are your favorite Brand / Series for Bulk smoothing capacitors (after bridge rectifier)...?

    Your favorites?

      i like pana FR
      cheaper than FC but better.
or for rare cases where the esr is too low, i look to rubycon YXF or YXG series

Both the Pana FR and Epcos have extremely good specs, FR 105° 10,000hrs great ripple and low ESR. The same for Epcos 125° 7000hrs great ripple and low ESR. They are pretty much on par.

I will look into this Brand epcos a little more as I dont know much about them. The Pana FR Vs FC seem to have a lot of debate, but the FR series definitely better specd, quite impressive I have to say!

FR are too new to know yet, bit FC will leak out at the legs after a decade or 2
i'v seen it many times in sega dreamcast and silicone-graphics psu's

iv got a pretty much brand new dreamcast in storage, only been run a few hours at most. would that be in the zone for capacitor issues?

                  i would check it.
if you are in a 100 or 110/120v country take some psu pics - i'v only seen european ones and curious if they are actually full-range and just not marked that way.

Chemicon KZ. I used to use Panasonic FC/FJ/FK/FM a lot, but they get pricier because they are harder to source here (authentic ones) unless I go online and buy them from Mouser, but after shipping fee and GST added in, they're just not cost effective, for an example if you're DIY a capacitance multiplier PSU.

Chemicon KZ OTOH are mass produced locally, at the factory they built here. The same goes with Samyoung/Samwha (Samsung) caps, these I forget which series that are good and have low ESR, tho I find them often when repairing LG and Samsung TV and monitor power supplies and they have a brown or a black sleeve with a silver print.

I just get the cheapest thing that physically fits. If it's something I care about, I'll use one of the Japanese brands (usually Rubycon). I've never used TDK/Epcos caps, but I've seen their snap-in caps used in industrial equipment (along with Cornell Dubilier - just make sure you're getting CDE brand instead of Mallory because Mallory caps are just Yageo/Kemet with a huge markup).

Numark TT500 Turntable...weird power "freezing" issue
                        by Soma89
                        Hello there,
I have a TT500 dj turntable that sometimes "freezes" upon powering on. This means that it lights up as normal, but does not react when pressing the play button (to turn the platter) or adjusting any settings through the push buttons or even move the slider/fader control; it just freezes in place with its default settings.

To get the turntable working normally again, I simply power off and on the turntable again and it usually boots up normally the second or third time around.

The manufacturer is unable to provide me with a service manual....

                        Dual CS 505-2 turntable switch
                        by JohnO88
I'm looking to identify the type of switch shown in picture, it's some sort of micro switch used to actuate motor. It is depressed when tone arm is moved into position.
It was stuck when I opened up turntable, freed it up and applied some switch and contact cleaner but no joy.
Where can I get my hands on one of these?...

Please help with noisy motor in turntable
                        by JimBanville
I've got a cheap turntable that is having noise interjected into the audio output from the motor. I'd like to "fix" it rather than throw it out. The turntable has a small, one board design that contains all the circuitry, including a usb audio output. It has a volume knob/power switch. After being powered on, there is no noise until the tonearm is moved over and the motor starts. There is a low level static noise interjected into the audio output. If you put a strain on the motor, the pitch of the noise gets higher. Any ideas based on the photos? I'm an amatuer, btw ...

Pro-Ject Turntable TK30 Debut Carbon Motor IC
                        by retel
If you have a failed motor IC, Type ILA7056B , that's used in these Pro-Ject Turntables it's a clone of a TDA7056B audio IC which is a lot easier to obtain.

                        Pioneer turntable tone arm adjustment
                        by Dobsuk
Hi all. I have Pioneer PL-Z460 turntable but have some issue with the tone arm.

When the record finishes or stop it manually the arm does not go back all the way to the rest. It stops just short and then decends down onto the base. Is there an adjustment to make the arm go back a futher 0.5 cm?

There is only one screw at the base of the arm but it is for height adjustment:

                        Any advise please?...
