Samsung plasma pn50B550t2f wont turn on

I created a new thread since this problem is not the same as other Samsung thread I was posting in.

Mine just wont turn on,I got no blinking light,sound...just dead.

tom66 suggest this to me about 2 months ago

You need to use a capacitance meter. If you do not have one you will have to take a chance and replace it, total cost about $5.

The capacitor is the little cyan/blue cuboid near the transformer, middle top of power board.

ok since then,I got the part and a cap meter



#1 on pic is the cap you refer to Tom66?,but with a capacitance meter
on the 2uf scale the new one read .063 and the one on the board read .069,should I still change it?(new one is http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...0492-ND/269112 )

#2 is those 3 cap I decide to test,those 3 cap are 450V and 150uf and on the 200uf scale they all read 1 (this was done with cap still on the board),they should read 150uf +- 10% no????

#3 well this one look crucial betwen them 2 transformator,should I check it? if so at what value,or this is the cuboid cyan you were talking about tom???

or should I check other stuff?

have you got a soldering iron you can desolder the capacitor you have marked as 2 i always remove and test capacitors myself to get a true reading number one is the capacitor tom is talking about imo.

Did you check the fuse near the plug with the 120AC Brown and blue wires?

1 Old one should be ok - they are within 10% of each other

2 Did you still have your meter on 2uf ? if so it would be off scale ("1")
Did you discharge the caps completely before testing?
In most cases you need to remove the cap to test it.
Instructions come with your meter?

3 It is not cuboid so it is not the one Tom mentioned - the one you tested in 1 is the cuboid.
It should say on it what value though they dont often fail.

I know nothing about plasma Tvs so cant really help further
I am assuming you have tested the 2 fuses and checked the voltages in and out of the board and the voltages on the big caps ( carefully- high voltage 300vDC+)

Also just for precautionary reasons, check for small cracks on the panel. These Samsung/Insignia 550's and 650 panels are well known for screen failures and random cracks/pops.

I have a low hour Insignia same as this panel (Samsung made) with a toasted screen (only 3500 hours), vertical and horizontal lines ugh!

Did you check the fuse near the plug with the 120AC Brown and blue wires?

yes all 4 fuses was check so as the power near the fuse

Those 150uF caps are in parallel so testing in cct would mean measuring any one would be 450uF. 3 x 150uf

Covers both the 42 and 50" version as you'll see different components used in the same location.

So, totally dead as in no standby light, no relay clicks when attempting to turn this on?

I just check those 3 cap for voltage,all 3 read zero on the 1000vDC scale (yes TV was plug in then)

If I touch the front touch pad button;I seem to ear a faint tick coming the external connection board (cable/speaker/usb...) and this board is way on the opposite side???
could be static and not related? this also done with TV plugin the wall

ok here is another way we could test this,I aint a pro in TV but I am a millwright from 1976
and I can fix anything once I back track the source of the problem,

those 3 cap read zero voltage because no power get to them so I must look up stream,the problem is between the source of power and them 3 caps ,so what can I check that is between them 2?

thanks for wasting on me,but in the long run it's worthy because if nothing is done

Does it have a SDcard slot? check if there isn't a penny shoved in there or something (has happened before).

Also,on the plug that goes from powerboard to mainboard,there should be printings beside it,standby voltage,ps-on etc... Did you measure if you have standby voltage on that plug? unplug all wires from power board,except the 110volt...

no SD card slot mr.martino,but some dirty usb slot which I vacuum clean and by doing this;I notice that they is a direct wire going from usb panel to the front touch pad????

the main board (I call it the power board, see pic on top),if I unplug all but the 110v,it read
117v BUT zero amps,should be 10A if all work ok and must at least be .1 amps when it's off?
I tested this by removing the fuse near the 110v entry.

and thanks for your help and dont quit easy,I want to know why this costly TV quit so fast and so many get rip by them.

Can you find HS802? 4 leg component(on heatsink) It should have -~~+ marked on them..
Do you get 110volt on the 2 legs with the ~ symbol? meter on AC(200volt scale).
Careful,don't slip with the meter probes...!!!

I do have the exact same tv here with the y board broken,I am willing to compare measurements as this powerboard is perfectly fine.....

another test I made on the power board;
Red lead to CN801 pin #3
Black lead to CN801 pin #4
I read zero
did this with CN801 unplug but all other plugin and I tried also with all unplug except the 120 ac V plugin.

Y board is the one on the left Martino??? back view that is,because on the back cover I can see a clear spark mark coming from there,I can take a picture if needed,I assume this was dirt in the air from smokers but looking close at it,this was a spark explosion trace.
