    fixed and broken ASUS vk246

Hey guys, need a little help here. I recently had my monitor(ASUS 24" vk246) go out. After a little trouble shooting and help from this website I came to find out it had a 2 second to black problem. So I went to my local radio shack and got all the capacitors and replaced them. Still nothing so I did the cffl test, first -good second -good third -good fourth -nothing. So I went deeper and found that one of the tubes had broken at the connector. On removal the already brittle tube that came in that pair had snagged and broken. After a few days my replacement cffl tubes were in and I started the rehabilitation process. After it was all said and done I plugged it in and tad-ah it worked, well kinda. It seems to be brighter at one corner of the new cffl side. and there's a line that's always different colored. And after a few seconds the whole screen gets brighter and brighter then black. Ill be adding a video so you can see what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YATPqZLNXqU

Hey thanks for the response, by nothing I mean the fouth cffl was bad. The lcd still turned on, and the method I was refering to is this.

      a) TURN POWER OFF and unplug the monitor and wait 1 minute
      b) disconnect CCFL #1 and plug in spare CCFL into spot #1
      c) plug in monitor and turn monitor on - note if "2 seconds to black" occurs
      d) TURN POWER OFF and unplug the monitor and wait 1 minute
      e) reconnect CCFL #1 and disconnect CCFL #2 and plug in spare CCFL into spot #2
      f) plug in monitor and turn monitor on - note if "2 seconds to black" occurs
      g) TURN POWER OFF and unplug the monitor and wait 1 minute
      h) reconnect CCFL #2 and disconnect CCFL #3 and plug in spare CCFL into spot #3
      i) plug in monitor and turn monitor on - note if "2 seconds to black" occurs
      j) TURN POWER OFF and unplug the monitor and wait 1 minute
      k) reconnect CCFL #3 and disconnect CCFL #4 and plug in spare CCFL into spot #4
      l) plug in monitor and turn monitor on - note if "2 seconds to black" occurs

It arrives to me all confused.. my knowledges ara limited, as a desperate test you can try to disable the protection an run with only the old couple of lamps, disconnect the new one's side, you have to write here the marking on the bigger IC on (usually under) the psu board.

This was probably a mistake - the symptoms suggest a faulty panel but radio shack rarely stock caps suitable for this purpose and you did not have this problem before?
You should replace them all again with Panasonic FR FM or FC or nichicon or
other good make caps from digikey or a well known supplier.

OK so we can say: YOU MUST replace the caps... especially in the case that after the first replacement you don't ever tested the screen until the lamp replacement and noticed this ultimate defect..

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I dont believe its the caps, for I did try to power it on with just the caps replaced. Then it worked but still had the 2 second till black problem, hence checking and changing the bulbs. I will order new caps if its really needed, but some of the caps radio shack had were panasonic.

Capacitors must be low esr/low impedance (different way of saying) the brand only doesn't mean enough

True the brand isn't enough but as I said it was fine before the new bulbs.

Here are the caps I got.

Have you checked with the seller of the lamps that they are correct for this monitor
                      Running voltage / wattage etc

Sorry it has been so long, I emailed cffl warehouse and they confirmed that the lamps I got would work. Thanks for the help so far, I hope to get this fixed, if theres any tests you think might help or if you need more pics/video just ask.

I remeber i had a monitor with a similar visual defect of screen, it was guilt of a broken pad/track near a component i had replaced. so check all the IP board bottom side..
