Dell 2005FPW with Two Seconds to Black

    Hello
I have a Dell 2005 FPW with solid power lights the Two Seconds to Black'
I think is the general term,
I have taken the model apart I can see on the power board there is a thing at T303 is brunt out.
What is it? Will replaing this thing fix the Two Seconds to Black ?
I know the caps may need replaceing even tho the caps look good.
The brunt out part has ( IT20. 1 NY0541BC ) on top of it.
Broard is a Dell 2005fpw inverter and power board YUYANG YP20106D REV 1.1

Its difficult to tell from that picture if it is actually burnt out. Do you have a Digital Multimeter to carry out some tests?
Fixed so far : 1 Home cinema system, 16 LCD Monitors, 4 LCD TV's

That is a transformer that drives the high voltage for the ccfl's (bulbs). It is one cause of 2 seconds to black along with many others. The following link is a guide to troubleshooting 2 seconds to black written by retiredcaps. Other issue include bad caps, bad ccfl's and / or wiring to the ccfl's, shorted transistors, etc.

Yes I do, It`s not a Fluke but it do the job.

jayoung Thank you for the link.

The Transformer has 2 by 6 pins I can only get readings from the side with 6 pins.
Doing a reading on all the transformer I get the same readings
        1-2 .6, 1-3 NO reading, 1-4 .8, 1-5 .7, 1-6 NO reading,
Looking at the board there is brunt mark under Transformer at T303.
Looks like 1 is brunt and 2 have had heated up.
I am haveing problems uploading the pic, will repost later tonight with pic.

Yeah another pic would be good.

Can you also post us the exact reading that you have from your transformer tests so we can see if they are right.

Haveing the Digital Multimeter on 2k and doing a reading from the solder side
The transformers have 2 x 6 pins and I have numberd them as below.
            . .
            1 2

            . . . . . .
            3 4 5 6 7 8

            Transformer T301
            A) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 2 = 1.
            b) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 3 = .963
            c) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 4 = 1.
            d) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 5 = 1.
            e) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 6 = .964
            f) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 7 = 1.
            g) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 8 = 1.
            _______________________________________________________
            Transformer T302

            b) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 3 = .992
            e) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 6 = .992
            the rest are 1.
            --------------------------------------------------------
            Transformer T303
= 1. on all the pins!
            --------------------------------------------------------
            Transformer T304

            b) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 3 = .997
            e) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 6 = .997
            the rest are 1.
            --------------------------------------------------------
            Transformer T305

            b) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 3 = 1.003
            e) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 6 = 1.003
            the rest are 1.
            ---------------------------------------------------------
            Transformer T306

            b) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 3 = .984
            e) black probe on pin 1, red on pin 6 = .984
            the rest are 1.

Re: Dell 2005FPW with Two Seconds to Black

If you take out that transfomer where the burnt spot is, you will more likely to see burnt winding on that transformer. You can see that the glue on that transformer had changed color due to the heat.

Re: Dell 2005FPW with Two Seconds to Black

So, I have the same monitor with the same problem--one of the transformers is burnt, just like in the picture above. Even if I were to find a replacement transformer, successfully desoldering the old one and installing the new would certainly be nerve-wracking for me (to say the least lol)....but I have another idea: can I just wire a ccfl inverter from a laptop to the 12v, 5v, and GND inside the LIPS, connect the backlight to that, and bypass the blown transformer entirely? Is this a bad idea?
