dell inspiron mini 1012 not charging batt

hi guys

got a dell inspiron mini 1012 that is not charging

have replaced the burnt charging ic with new one
(ISL6251AHAZ)
now it says plugged in,charging but battery is stuck at 0%
have replaced the battery also but still the same

any ideas?

Probably some other component around charger IC circuitry also failed.

Try to update bios.

if the chip shorted,
it probably blew an smd fuse.

tried updating bios but it wont update if battery is less than 10%

actually i keep checking on other components around it still cant find ones that failed

if you have a datasheet for the charge i.c. you can check the inputs and outputs.

try on changing the two mosfets nearby the (ISL6251AHAZ).

check voltage at pin no 3 of isl6251 it should be high, and check bat charging voltage present at pin no 18 of ISL6251

most probably BELOW COMPONENTS ARE FAULTY CHECK THESE AT YOUR SIDE
U16 = ISL6251
PQ35,PQ39=SIS412DN / SI7716ADN
ALSO CHECK FOR PR178FUSEABLE RESISTANCE AT +BAT CONNECTION

ALSO SHARE THE VOLTAGE AT U16 ISL6251

checked pq35, pq39 out of circuit, both are good
resistance for pr178 is 1.4 ohms in my dmm

dont know if its related but pq40 shows short on pin 3 and pin 2, both sides

as per you provide the volage of u16
problem releated to
pin no 3 (charging enable pin)should be high when charger and battery is connected,in your case pin no 3 of u16 is 0v

please clear the following

1.battery and charger should be attached to laptop.
2.check voltage at pin no 3,6, 7 of battery connector JBATT1 THESE SHOULD BE 3 TO 3.3 V DC.IF Missing check for related ckt and battery faulty.
3.Check battery try to replace with another
4. PQ40 IS OK as it is use to provide the adapter voltage dcin pin no 24 of u16 and that voltage is available to u16

hi i worked on the dell mini 9 and 10s the problem you have isnt a fault just flash bios back to a02 you most likely find it cured the problem let me know

that may be a challenge,
dell flashers often want a full battery AND external charger or they wont run.

no, you can flash in dos mode by using external commands, after your bios file ***.exe /forceit /nopause will flash down

hi proman unfortunately i couldnt find the bios version a02 so i tried upgrading the bios to a12 in dos mode but still battery still stuck at 0%

do you have a copy of a02?


have another battery for this model but stuck at 5%
other battery is 0%

pl check PL10 coil for open at battery connector , go through attatchment

Again...If the laptop posts, DON'T WORRY ABOUT BIOS!!!
It has got nothing to do with BIOS...
As sanehdeep2012 said you don't have voltage on PIN3 & therefore the PU16 disables charging...

pin no 3 of u16 is low as it not detecting the battery because the path of battery connector pin no1/3 is disconnected from u16 pin no 18, only three components are there in that line
PL10, PL 15 AND PR178
pl check all these because one end you have 9.2v and other hand you have 0.7v which mean something is open in between, so i suggest three component only pl check i sure you will resolve the isue and give a good news to us
