Caspian is correct! You need to have an adapter for the WSON or SOIC8 or you risk a bad read from that chip.
I was just seating the chip in my programmer's test clip, which could identify the chip type correctly and read from it but it couldn't erase or write to it.
The problem is that the test clip would not make contact with all the WSON side contacts--the proper adapter will.
I have an adapter for the WSON on order--you can get them on ebay just put this into your seach : DFN8 WSON8 MLF8 MLP8 QFN8 to DIP8 Adapter 6*5mm 6*8 IC Programmer Chips Socket

Re: HP ProBook 640 G4 bios password help
I resoldered the 32MB chip back onto the motherboard and then
used RCunlocker on the 16MB dump but just got a solid CAP's lock LED.
The motherboard went bad, a resistor near the 32MB chip broke off and
could not be resoldered back on.Last edited by kudo623; 09-12-2023, 10:53 AM.

Re: RCUnlocker
RC:
Regarding ZBook 14 G7 and G8 where both BIOS chips are 32MB
Do you have any guidance on how to clear the PW?
There doesn't seem to be any unlocker tool or any documentation
on how to Edit or clear the BIOS PW on these machines?
It appears that there are two methods used on this site to "skin the cat":
1. Using both BIOS 32MB dumps
2. Using just the Main 32MB Bios Dump where you don't have to remove the entire board which saves time.
Do you recommend #1 or #2?
Thanks!...

Re: HP hp zbook firefly 14 g7 25Q256 (32mb) Bios PW
Hi Thanks for that recommendation! I observed that some boards have solder over the entire copper contacts while some do not. Good advice thank you volinakis!...

Re: HP ProBook 640 G4 bios password help
Hi
I'm looking at post 21 and 22
where a member requested removal of password
from 32MB chip like mine and one of your team
removed it for him and it worked (post 24).
Can you do the same for me?
I had several that's why I made a good faith donation
on the 24th.

Re: HP hp zbook firefly 14 g8
It works now thank you!
there was a message when I first got into the BIOS that I got before regarding the ME region being changed and if I wanted to restore it? I let the timer time out and did not choose to do that. Not sure if that has any bearing on anything?
Just a note: I found that these Winbond W25Q256FV 32MB chips in these boards will break down the more you heat them up or overheat them. They will eventually become brittle. I try to use the least amount of heat that will remove them or solder them to the board. What...

Re: HP hp zbook firefly 14 g8
I was able to get into the BIOS and reset to factory settings,
then put the DMI and the counter counted down to zero
then I tried to enter the BIOS it was locked again?
What happened?Last edited by kudo623; 08-30-2023, 05:40 PM.
