Hey there,I'm from Texas have been an electronic tech for 40 years.
Worked for some big corps in their factory service centers.(JVC,Panasonic) Until they closed all of them down.
Also a mod on one of the big gun forums.
Started working on some flat screen TV's which my searches seemed to bring me to this forum. So I decided to join.
Got to see if I can get some questions answered.

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum and would like to say how I enjoy fixing things myself instead of having a professional and pay more than I can afford, at the moment I'm trying my hand at fixing a free 60 inch TV that someone didn't want so when I eventually fix it the old 42 inch I'm using at the moment will help pay back for the parts. I didn't know this forum existed and I'm happy it has a range of subjects as I love 2/3/486 computers and using original hardware instead of emulation ie Dosbox and I have done my first 486 motherboard trace repair from a bad Varta battery but I will post soon about it as I cant get it to post. I'm going to go back now and post my question for my TV so hope to hear from you, CdDvdFlash....Shaun.

Hello Boys and Girls,
I´m new here and wanted to introduce myself.
I`ve a background in fixing electronics and mechanics.
Sometimes I get old TV`s that otherwise would end up in the trash and try to fix them,
maybe somebody can help me out with tips from time to time.

First I want to comment on your site, it has a volume of information, well organized etc. I have to admit, I have been lurking for several years and now finally joined.

My friends call me Madman Muntz, after the real madman. Its because I collect Vintage auto sound equipment and my favorite is the old 4 track and 8 track players that Muntz built out of Van Nuys Ca. I have been a Electronic Tech for the past 35yrs, I still do repairs.

Currently I'm more into restorations of old equipment such as woodworking, metal, auto sound equipment. Anyways just a bit on what I like doing.

Hi all.

Interested in electronics from a young age, have a 32inch LG TV that I have opened and repaired a few times by shoving it in an oven but now its fully baked ��. Hoping to find a solution.

Also have a 40" Samsung TV that I bought cheap, but has green in place of true black, think I know what chip to replace but need to make the proper time for it.

Its my hobby and not my profession, but learning about electronics is fun.

Oh, also have a bit of a faulty Marantz that resets itself when used for a while, i know its early but hoping that I will get to it some time this year ��

My name is Joop and I live in the netherlands.
I like to repair broken stuff. Not only electronics but also cars etc.
By profession I am a Senior Maintenance Technician Rotating equipment at a oil refinery.
I did several courses in electronics not for work but just because I am interested in electronics.

I hope to learn more about electronics on this great forum especially on component level repairs.

I just want to say hello. I found this forum by looking for a solution to repair the power supply of my samsung screen. I'm a noob in electronics, but I find it interesting, sometimes also frustrated, to find some errors on electronic parts like power supplies. Fore me it's a good way to improve my English an learn something about electronics.

As this is a brand new forum, I thought I'd open up a thread to encourage new members to introduce themselves a bit.. now hey.. let's not get too personal.. ok ?

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread "clean" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. :oops: I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. :roll: nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often :cry: so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said "w00t.. they have a forum"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..

Hi, petabyte and all here.

I am raybob of the UK., an old stoker now almost 71 (19th.) and I feel priveledged to have found Badcaps.net and to have been granted registration.

I began using computers at my then workplace - a dairy here in North Devon, in about 1974 and have been interested in these machines since that time.
My first PC was a dos-based Amstrad 1640 c/w two floppy drives (5 and a half inch ) and a wizard 30 mb hard drive. I thought it was the cats whiskers back then.

In my attick I have a 1991 Toshiba T1800 mono notebook which will still function if the hard drive is given a "push". It is fitted with a fax module and an extra 4 mb ram, 6 in total.

Alongside computers I maintain a lifetime interest and one time business in maintaining a few old classic cars.

I have arrived here because of the need to repair my Toshiba Satellite L350 which suffers from a freeze when connected to power but ok otherwise and if in sleep mode.

The reader may understand that I hate to see good things thrown out if repair is at all possible.

Hey all,

Been repairing electronics since I was about 10 years old. Got good at it a couple of years ago (36 years later!) but I will always appreciate help from those more experienced, and more capable, than me.

I specialise in restoring old PCs, with a blog and YouTube channel dedicated to this subject. Anything I can't fix I scavenge for parts - made a bridge rectifier the other day with Schottky diodes I had lying around because I was unimpressed with the voltage drop I got from regular diodes, for example.

Anyway, great to be here. I've been reading posts on here for years, and am looking forward to being involved.
