My name is Richard, I am 65 years old and live in Vienna, Austria.
I have studied Communications and Electronics at the University of Vienna and afterwards
I've been working in the computer industry as a hardware, system and network engineer since 1981.
My first personal computer was a self-made Z80 (4 MHz, 2x64kB RAM and 8" Floppy Drives.
Professionally I was working for a German computer manufacturer and later for DEC (VAX11 and Microvax).

I came across this forum because I've purchased a second hand HP laptop (ZBook 17 - G6), unfortunately on
this machine there is a BIOS password set, on which the seller can't remember.
Since HP rejects it to reset a BIOS password, I have found an instruction on YT how to reset such a password,
and this refers to this forum.

I am looking forward to reading interesting contributions from CT HW and SW minded people.

I'm a semi-retired software engineer in Northern California who likes fixing things.

This past year, one of the most interesting projects was fixing Miele Coffee Machine (CVA6805). Over time I had to replace one of the pumps, one of the tubes, and a valve, but I'm happy to report the unit appears to be working perfectly for some time now. Buying Miele parts could be a bit challenging without getting entire (expensive) modules, but with some effort I was able to find the individual parts that needed fixing.
