Greetings and Felicitations! Or maybe G'daye! Name's Bruce. As you might surmise from the username, I've been immersed in things digital since the good ol' 8-bit days. My first computer was a Heathkit H89, which still lives (badly in need of attention (I hate tantalum capacitors!)) in my garage. I've lived in and around high tech my entire life. My dad talked APL and FORTRAN to mainframes for NASA most of his career, and my granddad and his sawed off little Canadian radar genius buddy pretty much created high fidelity back in the 1940s - think very complicated output transformers killing crossover distortion, big blue wattmeters, etc. I'm sitting on the closing years of a decades long career in IT and networking at a major football-obsessed University in the lower right corner of the country, and have played guitar and done sound at my church for about 35 years now. My wife recently retired after almost 40 years in IT; one daughter is a web designer, and her sister is an M.E. who designs fiddly bits for things that go zoom and boom for one of the big defense contractors.
My current fascinations include watch repair, ham radio (WA4UF, most often on 6, 17, and 40m but last years storms ravaged my antennas and I've yet to put up new ones), building guitars (my wife balks at me BUYING any more, so yay loophole!), arranging and recording electronic music, and trying to keep my mother lode of old Mc gear sounding its best.
What brought me to the site was a link to service information for my ancient Macbook Pro, which is down to its last functional USB port and is in need of some TLC. I also have an aggravating bit of anomalous behavior in one of my MIDI controllers that I hope to find some help sussing out.
So that's it from north Florida. Howdy everyone, and Go Gators!Comment

Hello everybody,
I stumbled upon this website while trying to fix my mother’s laptop, and I have to say—it’s really nice to find a community where people are so generous with their knowledge and experience in hardware repair.
I’m not a professional, just someone who enjoys learning and tinkering, especially when it comes to bringing dead devices back to life. Looking forward to learning from all of you and hopefully contributing back as I gain more experience!
Thanks for having me here!
Best regards
Myk

Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Emilio, I’m from Argentina, and I’ve been working in electronics repair for over 25 years, mostly focused on hardware-level diagnostics and board repair. I’m a trained electronics technician, and for the past several years I’ve been specializing in MacBook logic board repairs — things like tracking down shorts, reviving dead boards, and replacing faulty SMCs or PMICs.
My first computer was a 486DX clone running DOS, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked. I started out with basic repairs and gradually moved into more advanced work involving schematics, boardviews, and microsoldering, especially on Apple devices.
Aside from board repair, I’m also passionate about electric vehicles, solar energy systems, and anything related to energy efficiency and smart tech.
I found this forum while researching some recurring MacBook board issues, and I was really impressed by the level of knowledge and the spirit of collaboration here. It’s great to see a community where people are not only skilled but also willing to help others improve.
Happy to be here — looking forward to learning and contributing!

Hi all Mark here from Montréal
I've been a pc and mac tech forever and upping my game to more complex hardware level repairs.
I'm mostly a Linux pc guy but i've had mac and windows related gigs in the past.
I still have the C64, the old G3 and G4 humming along.
I'm looking to learn how to upgrade and repair soldered upgrade on mac and pc hardware.
I'm still amazed at how we went from 14,4k to 1-5g for home internet
I was on the net before the webComment

I'm currently running an Athlon 1800 with a Radeon 9800XT for games, last
few years it was a 3200XP with a GF6800 but it blew itself apart just like
most high end equipment seems to. My home business system is a Dual Core
X2 3800+. My next purchase will most likely be a Quad Core Processor, AMD
or Intel depending on reviews and if the old A1800 survives that long.I’mComment

Hey **BadCaps** fam! 🎓⌨️
Just wanted to flex a little—I’m out here grinding as a **computer engineering (or your major)** student at **_[Your University]_** in the US! 💻🔥 Between soldering keyboards, hunting for rare caps, and surviving all-nighters, I’m living that **"mechanical keyboards + higher education"** life.
**Why does this matter?**
✅ **Custom keebs > dorm food** (priorities, right?)
✅ **60% keyboard = 100% productivity** (or so I tell my professors)
✅ **Group buys > group projects** (fight me)
Shoutout to anyone else juggling **keeb addiction** and **academic deadlines**—we’re built different. 😎
Drop a comment if you’re also a student (or just here for the keycap drama). Let’s geek out!Comment
