Understanding why something stopped working has always fascinated me, and now that I'm retired I have more time to do it. I stumbled upon this forum looking for guidance on troubleshooting the power board on my LG OLED TV, which worked again thanks to the replacement of the board as suggested by the service manual, but I will not stop investigating the faulty board. When I was younger a schematic was included with most of the tv set you could buy, but today nobody want to loose time, and the service manual (when you're able to find it) take you to the replacement of a full board. But I'll try not to surrender to this policy. LoLComment

Hey everyone!
I am joining the community as an enthusiast.
I've been around a while, but I know a more about IT infrastructure, networks and servers.
I have been playing around with hardware as user and integrator.
I would love to understand more how things work so that I can diagnose problems correctly and maybe fix them.
I got here looking for information on how to rewrite my BIOS (which I believe has been corrupted). And I am also playing with desoldering of the analog sticks of my PS5 controller.

I like fixing things that only kinda need fixing. Basically; I waste a lot of time for no real reason.Comment

Hello,
Just a quick post to introduce myself.
I am from Belgium, computer scientist for 25 years and also IT teacher for 5 years now.
I learned the basics of electronics during my higher education but I never practiced it professionally. For a few years now, I have returned to it as a hobby. Now I repair more and more things and I have equipped myself for microelectronics (microscope etc.): I have managed to repair some laptops and motherboards, but I still have a lot to learn and that is what motivates me to be here.

I'm still fairly novice - I can design basic electronics but not really a repair person yet. I want help fixing my TV, just as in references, guides and maybe interaction.
So far I changed some caps ... that were bad. First one, got 20 seconds of run time - the standby light was back. Turned TV on, after a while scrolling digital garbage. Then I changed the main high voltage smoothing cap in PSU 400v 120uF - and it ran for 3-4 hrs. Then same and now I'm back online looking for guides what to do next.
Process of elimination - possibly some more caps to change that seemed ok. I mean I found one that was leaky and dead but the others seem fine, tested ok on board. Maybe they aren't ... or what was even the reason why caps failed anyway?
This forum seems better than most I've seen so I joined up.
I live in Thailand - TV is an aconatic brand.
Best regards to communityComment
