Hello all! Danved, old computer engineering student who lost his way and is now back as a hobbyist. My interests are - largely undefined - but retro repair, PC repair and just fun projects are my goals.
I happened upon this forum entirely by happenstance, but what an invaluable resource. Well done, community!

I guess I'll throw my hat into the ring now.
I go back a way with Topcat, while he was still in the electronics biz, when a 200 mhz processor was a sight to behold. I've been using computers since the late 80's (first machine was an 8 mhz 286 with a 20 meg hardcard) and am mostly a networking guy with a helping of programming and a side of hardware.
Most of my involvement around here is behind-the-scene stuff, mostly setting up different services, and as always, needling topcat for still running windows.
Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask.

Hi, I run an consumer electronics repair shop with limited ability in board level work. Still learning how to read schematics and how to test using a multimeter, but I have some experience with micro-soldering. I was able to diagnose an issue and replace a component using a community supplied schematic from this site. Awesome resource!

Hello to all you BADCAPS out there! I want to thank you for allowing me to join you on this forum. My name is Ed and I will turn 73 next week.
I took a basic electricity class way back in high school and then went straight in to car repair. I was a Honda car mechanic for 47 years until I
retired 8 years ago. I've always loved electricity and how it works. Never was brave enough to try soldering any thing to a board filled with
capacitors and resisters.
I wanted to join BADCAPS so I could try and remove an admin password on a Dell desktop that just recently came into my possession.
I see there are services on ebay that will do it for a fee but that doesn't appeal to me. I'm going to try and do it myself with what I can learn
and maybe ask you for guidance.
Any way I hope to learn many things from what all of you have already done and accomplished and are sharing so generously with this
forum.
So with that , I'm going to start searching. Thank you all.

Hi!
Came here because I happen to have a few bricked thinkpads around me that I'm hoping I can give a 2nd life to.
Those are from work and are out of warranty by only 6 months so I'm fortunate enough to know both the bios and bitlocker keys which will make my life easier.
I'm also interested to learn how to efficiently search through schematics and boardview.
Thank you so much in advance I'm sure I will be able to learn a lot.
