HI all! I'm a computer and electronics tech in my late 50's in NZ, having abandoned a promising career 3 decades ago as a professional engineer (planning) in NZ's then leading (ex monopoly) telecommunications service provider. My brain is wired ADHD which makes me a fair problem solver but also means I spend time on all sorts of wonderful but unnecessary details!
First PC I ever programmed was actually a Dick Smith System 80 in 1982 (AKA Video Genie in the UK, a near-functional clone of the Radio Shack TRS-80 from the US). I bought my own one a couple of years later.
I bypassed the Apple II and IBM-PC and jumped straight into the world of the Apple Macintosh, which has been my main focus ever since (and yes, we suffered Bad Caps in Macs for a few years too)
Along the way I have also repaired the occasional PC and general electronics too.
These days as I hone my SMD rework skills, I'm getting more adventurous in board level repair, hence I found this forum.
