Hi all, 67 yr old retired. Started programming on IBM System 34's and continued up to dinky little AS 400's. Became a system analyst and only occasional programmer. Built too many PC's to list. Now I'm a gamer using a system I put together using an I5. Nice to see a forum like this.

Hello All! I appreciate the opportunity to become a member of this forum. Here’s a little about myself. I currently hang my hat in Maryland with my wife and I currently work as an Industrial Specialist for a DOD contractor. I retired from the US Army in 2011 after 23 years of service. I attended the US Army power generation equipment repairer course way back in the mid 80s and came up a power generation equipment mechanic repairing electric power generators from 2kW up to 150 kW. I also spent 6 years overseas working for the DOD contractor ITT repairing rotary uninterpretable power supplies (UPS) and large capacity battery UPS, back-up generators up to 500kW, automatic switchgear and the like.

I attended the Cleveland Institute of Electronics in the mid 90s receiving an electronics technology with laboratory certificate. I have a BS in computer information systems, I’m a Six Sigma Black Belt from Aveta Business Solutions and I am currently working on an MBA.

I bought my first computer in 1988. It was a Commodore Colt with a 8088 processor and two 5.25 floppy drives, no hard drive and CGA video graphics. I eventually progressed to a 286 with EGA graphics and then a 486 with VGA graphics. Never owned a computer with 386 processor LOL.

I joined this forum because I’m about to change the power supply CAPS on my Viewsonic LCD TV. I’ve got everything I need to get started.

I really look forward to participating in this forum and I hope I can bring some value to the community.

                            Greetings Fellow Earthlings!

Been around the planet for 40+ odd years now. Been tinkering with human technology for the last 30 years or so. I have a Degree in Computer Engineering. but i am still just a tinkerer.

My first PC was a IBM PC XT clone in the 80s. I too had a C64 that worked one day and was forever shelved. quite unfortunate that i never got to learn to program that thing. Apple IIs with tape drives, Atari Pong. and stuff... pretty sure I've dated myself by now.
I fondly recall countless hours of playing ASCII games.

I've been online since before the Internet. even owned a tiny BBS for awhile for fun. 2400bps modems! oooh how fast that seemed in those days.

I'm here since i repair stuff for myself and friends. lots of time i get to land here in my searches and i do enjoy the knowledge and learnings that are imparted. Thank You.

I'm not much for participating a lot since i am real busy in real life. But if you shoot me a question, I'll do my best to answer in a timely manner.

I wish Everyone the best in their endeavors.

                                    Greetings!

I'm just a guy who likes broken things alot.
Live in Melbourne Aus. and have always enjoyed tearing into just about everything to see what's inside, and electronics still has me learning and wanting to see what's inside other things regularly.
I usually have many unfinished projects around, broken gadgets im trying to repair or just salvage parts from and a general electrical feeling mess around my desk, although there is a desperate lack of quality test equipment on the same desk. Hopefully that will improve as my demands grow. Right now I am wishing I had a decent lcr meter for example!
Thanks for all the great info, keep up zee good verk + don't change anysink!

                                        Hi all,
my name is Tom, I'm from Germany and have a ViewSonic VX2835WM with the typical Bad cap Problem. So I found this site via Google and checked the Hanns.G HG281D thread. But without registration I can't view the attachments in the thread.
Many thanks for this site and the useful tips for repair!

                                        Best Regards

Thanks for the welcome. I'm from Australia. I have a LG 50 Plasma with the back off and checking 'caps' for faults but not too experienced with TVs. I had a Security Co. and did mainly alarm systems, so can solder and read a meter but knowing the x board from the y is a bit passed me. When I can get into the forum I will check my problem and if not found might post a question to all of you experts. Cheers. Bill Richter
