(SOLVED...KINDA) - D50u-D1 has standby light but won't turn on.

    Short answer: main board.

    Long answer:
Someone gave me a Vizio D50u-D1 that had a standby light but would fade out when the power button was pressed. No video, no backlight, may as well as be unplugged. Research indicated a bad main board which I could replace with a used one for $50 or a rebuilt one for $65. Either way, what's the point? If it's designed to bake itself to death in 5 years (TV is a 2015 model), why bother?

For the hell of it, I tested the LEDs. They were fine. Power button? Working just fine. Once again, why bother doing anything else? Just trash the thing already. Not worth putting money into.

Well...it is the day before Thanksgiving and I'm bored, so...let's see what we can do. This is actually my favorite part of troubleshooting, the part I call "autopsy mode", where I don't care what I break, I'm going to figure out what the original issue was.

I took the main board off, removed its heat shield, and applied about 400 degrees of hot air to the two processors on it (about 3 minutes per processor) and left it to cool for a half an hour. I wiped off as much of the white thermal paste I could and applied some CPU thermal grease to the cores (I used arctic silver), reassembled everything, and the TV actually turned on. I couldn't believe it.

But now what? It's not a permanent solution and it's just going to die again anyways due to the crappy design.

No pics right now but I decided to take a 12V CPU fan, glued it to the middle of the main board's heat shield (blowing into it), used an old 12V 2 amp power supply to power it, cut a square hole into the back side of the TV cover, and it's all benching now. Who knows if it'll last.

Fun fact: this is the first time "reflowing" has worked for me, thus my surprise. Happy Thanksgiving, y'all.

The fix is to reball it. I did this with a 55" Vizio. It's now in our living room. I expect it to last longer than original, as far as that problem, because I used leaded solder.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

I got the tv in spring 2024. At that time it started, then ran 60 sec and poweroff. Seemed like reboot issue. I didn't have time and room to check it in summer so I plugged it in and now the standby light is on. I press button on remote, standby light goes off and tries to start?. No picture or backlight on LCD. I thought about removing diodes like in this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...sung-qled-q60r...

Philips 37HFL5682L/F7 no standby light, incomplete service manual?
      by jasonbay13
picked up a tv and when the power is plugged, the standby light flashes real quick then goes off. of 3.3, 12, 24v is all there but i couldnt find any 5v on the back-end board. ON/OFF is low, which it seems is what turns on the backlight so i removed the wire at the back-end board and put a 10k resistor to the 3.3v, which when plugged in brings on the backlight for a split second and also a blue light "LED1" on the inverter board, which goes off after a short time.
am i missing something to bring on the backlight or is the inverter/ccfl gone bad? would that cause the inverter board...

Samsung UN70NU6070F Standby Light flashes twice
      by Nicktronic
      Hey Everyone,

So I've got this Samsung and the reported issue is that when powered on the backlight comes on, but no picture, no sound, it will flicker, the standby light will flash red twice and repeat the whole process...each loop lasts about 15 seconds.

I've googled the issue and understand it is likely a panel/driver board issue, but was hoping the "tape method" could be successful. Before I did that though, I disconnected the left LVDS cable and powered the TV on. This time I got sound, no picture and the two blink standby light stopped. Did the same...

The standby voltage should be 11,88 volt on the diode, but I have 13 volts. I put in the photo the different volts I test and there are someone negative…I don’t know if it s normal. On...

LED TV Samsung The Frame 55 inch QE55LS03RAU Standby Light only
      by ChristianBr01
      Hello everyone,
I got a Samsung The Frame 55 inch TV for free from uncle cause it is not turning on anymore. I am in the second year of training as an electrician so I have knowledge already but I am far away from to be a pro.
The TV has Standby but ist not turning on. A Friend of mine owns a 50 inch Frame TV so I checked the One Connect Box and the One Connect Cable there. Both are good and working normally. I have opened the TV case and measured some voltages on the Board.
What I already found is that the 12.8V are not an the connector to the main board connector to the power...
