Sanyo AVM278 chasis: DS25390 -- no sound on cable input only

...decided to take a break from flat screen computer monitors and look at a Sanyo AVM278 TV.

The RCA jack inputs reproduce good, clear sound & picture but the cable input does not have any sound.

This is the first TV I have looked at since the glass tube models and I could realy use some assistance.

    Pictures in the next post.

Thank you for your great suggestion, kc8adu.
It can not be that easy!

I will check the set and post.

This model does not seem to have an SAP setting.
The closest setting in the menu system is labeled "AVI".
        ???
I went through the menu and set/reset every setting I could find (including the volume) with no sound from the cable feed.

The largest IC on the circuit board in chassis DS25390 is labeled OM8377PS.

The only SANYO schematic I could find is the: DS20930 chassis service manual which uses the LA76950 control IC.

While these IC's are likely to have similar functions they do not seem to have similar pin outs.

I need to know which pins on the OM8377PS are the MUTE binary input and FM-AMP (audio) output. I can trace it around from there.

        THX,

This TV is a piece of trash.

I picked it up from the trash this summer and it never worked properly. Kept shutting itself off. Replaced all the caps and then the screen turned green.

Junk it. It uses a Samsung tube, and the image quality quite frankly stinks.

I spent $40 on it and it's about to go in the trash. The hoarder in me wants to take out the motherboard again to salvage the caps I invested but I think I'm just gonna throw it away next week.

They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

            THX mockingbird,

I have decided to purchase a digital tuner for it and use the audio inputs.
Any one know where I can pick up a thrifty tuner?

If you still have the board then I could realy use the audio preamp IC part number. It's the tabed 8 or 9 pin single inline device in the located in the middle area of the board.

            Best regards,
            Kevin
