    LG 60PK950 no sound

    Hello all!

I am new to this forum and hope to get some advice for my problem with my LG60PK950.

My 9-year-old PK950 has had some noise problems for a year. Crackling and popping sounds from the TV and sometimes the sound disappears temporarily. Both from the TV speakers and via the HT system.

However, now the sound has completely disappeared since the last time popping sounds occurred.

Is there a way to fix this? Or is my beloved PK950 ready for a trip to the junkyard ...?

    Thanks in advance!

Can you get sound from the headphone socket or when outputted to any bluetooth device ie soundbar.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

There is no headphones out, just optical (HT setup) and that is "dead" too.

            OK, one step further.

I suspected the lower right board with the tuner and HDMI ports. So I heated it slightly up with a heat gun. After a minute sound came back. So it "must" be a faulty connection/soldering joint.

Any idea what components to suspect?

Try and narrow down the area that you are heating so as to identify the component(s) that may be faulty.

More than likely the cpu chip under the large heatsink is the culprit.

Took the board (eax61141605(0)) off. And heated it firmly on the backside.
It still works. Hopefully it stays like that while looking for a spare part. But so far Google links on this part are dead...

Thanks for all the help so far!

                      Re: LG 60PK950 no sound

As tvtimmy pointed out, the main processor chip underneath the heatsink is more than likely the culprit, and I will second that.
We have fixed hundreds of these boards with that processor chip being the source of several different issues, from audio issues, HDMI issues, to the TV not even showing any picture on screen what so ever, and no audio at the same time.
It's a common failure and your heating did fix it and will fix it temporarily, but unless you either reflow, reball, or replace that chip, the issue will come back within the next few days, weeks or you might actually be okay for a few months if the cracked joint isn't that bad.

Thank you all for your answers!

Tv is still doing fine, but when it comes to silence again, I will reflow!

so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

                          Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

                          by acedogblast
Hello I have a Marantz SR5012 7.1 AV receiver that is producing speaker pop and other sound issues. These sounds are coming out of all connected speakers regardless if they are configured to be used. The rca preouts are clean from these defects so I am assuming the problem has to be with the amplifier.
These sound issues are random and unpredictable. There are times where the unit can go 10 minutes without any problems then suddenly the problems come back. It doesn't seem to matter if there is sound being played or not.

I have disassembled the unit and was able to take out the...

After I was able to bring my beloved Onkyo back to life (total failure of the power amplifiers) and it has now been doing its job for some time without any problems, it is now ailing with a new problem. It still works fully, but after about 5min it "pops" in the right surround speaker for about 0.5 sec very loud (100% volume). I am almost scared to death - sounded like a battery exploding or something. It sounds like something is discharging - a...

                          by hopeng
Hi, does anyone know what could be the reason for 'popping' sound during windows start (while window icon showing)? I just replaced a broken motherboard and the sound start happening.

Windows starts ok. No noise afterword. But the start up popping sound is scary to me. Not sure if it's safe to use my PC. I've attached the video of the internal of the PC during start up and the sound. thanks....
