Burnt cap 8.7nF 2KV horizontal cap.

Hi all, this is from RCA ITC222 chassis in D52W19B.... CL031 location. Once in awhile we're lucky to resolder this joint on this but unfortunely arcing ate up and fried the capacitor that I can't trust it to survive the warranty period of our repair (90 days) so anyone have this rattling around in their cubbyholes storage?

RCA part number is 259321. My local supplier shows it as NLA, means run out of stock and will not restock due to RCA haven't asked for another run of parts produced (permanently). That's quite a departure from long availability for the RCA of this caliber. This TV is 2005 so Can't be so soon but this happened.

    So start digging!

    Cheers, Wizard

(I'm not sure if this is legitimate information).

And this seems to be the correct part.

For a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

      PlainBill,

Last link is good but I wondered why this first link suggests 10nF for that part number which is for 8.7nF.

Reason I ask about anyone to rummage through your part bins and see if you can come up with 8.7nF 2KV poly cap. So we don' thave to deal with across the border order from a reseller, instead from a person to another would be nice.

I found a combination of caps (two caps) that adds up to close 8.76 but it reads on capacitance meter as 8.65-8.7nF using a 8.2nF and a blue ceramic 560pF. But I'm leery if that works. I used to cobble together multiple poly caps to get real close but not like this with a poly log and a coated 2KV ceramic.

the hv will just come out a bit low and the pic a bit wide.
the proper one is availible at least.
i remember this cap would go open in older ss sets and blow the neck off the crt.

Re: Burnt cap 8.7nF 2KV horizontal cap.

          1. Minimum order is the issue, and suppliers who does have this are in USA and major suppliers (big 3 IIRC), are NLA, but smaller suppliers seems still stock some.
          2. border fee for one item. not worth the trouble.
          3. Boss is reluctant to use credit card.

Besides this is 4 years old set and I'm troubled by RCA mangling it's reputation by killing off good TVs. CTC203/ATC113, PTK195 and ITC222 were the awesome stuff. That capacitor for ITC222 was wet towel thrown on a party.
Their RCA LCD is poor in service if we ever manage to get parts for.

Blown off CRT neck sure, that was few years ago. This was DTV306 chassis 61". That we had 2 year repeat trouble with it, what started it off was one CRT needed changed (This swapping CRT was a routine job with other sets of PTK195 and DTV306 and ATC221, ITC222, as well as other DTV306 (not many thank god!) sets with no issues and we carefully set them up properly except this said 61" and was a NEW CRT). Then set wouldn't track well along with other 2 CRT and kept shutting down intermittently, error codes is impossible to determine, then other 2 CRTs later. Then finally one CRT blew its neck off. Chassis inspected for any bad joints are not found.
RCA had to send us a CRT after few months as RCA had to collect enough CRTs to rebuild with! And that was in 2006. Funny thing, that CRT is also used in other later chassis. Go figure.

This is early chassis design that begun using 31.5/32KHz design with 2 fans that is capable of 1080 and first chassis to have scaler module. I deplore DTV306/DTV307 with passion. This is because of very strange, extremely complicated chassis design, arcane service menu (necessary when setting up replaced CRT so they are biased properly for tracking let alone convergence (!!) ).
I once had to replace two fans on other DTV306 even those fans still spin freely but protective circuit was tripping because fans were not responding fast enough! I flicked them as soon as TV is turned on before shutdown trip take place and TV stayed up. Also fans were intermittently not spinning. RCA made mistake of not putting in a simple circuit that does "voltage bump" to accelerate fan spin. RCA simply started them at barely starting minimum voltage and fans were 24V, RCA was starting them up around 8V. Madness.

            Thread closed.

Luckily customer knew one other place (this other one we don't refer to because we use one different private tv shop whom we help each other and know well the guy but the customer didn't go there even we didn't told him either so have no prior knowledge. Ok, customer was able to get this part and gave this part to us and we successfully fixed this said TV. That's it. We still got paid for this repair. Decent labor cost.
