    Samsung PS42C450B1W Picture Noise/Solarization

    Hi All,

I'm just starting to look at this 7 year old Samsung PS42C450B1W that, on first power up the picture is fine. Then, after a few minutes, the picture becomes distorted with highlight noise and solarization effects. This is present on tuned images along with USB sourced video files.

On brief inspection there was no obvious visible bad caps, etc.
Looking at threads related to solarization, many point to the T-Con board (named logic board in this service manual)

Before I dive in and start measuring voltages, are there any general pointers for this kind of fault?

I've found the service manual which was too large to upload so have provided a link here:

    Many thanks

Do a search of the forum for running the test pattern which will eliminate or otherwise any problem with the mainboard.

I assume you mean the inbuilt test patterns accessed via the Service Mode.

If so, each test pattern displays varying amounts of the distortion I describe above.

Does this indicate the main board is suspect?

No. It's disconnect the cable from control board to main board and place a jumper link on the control board but |I'm not 100% certain if its's pins 1 to 2 or 3 and 4 which is why I suggested searching the forum.

I've disconnected the main ribbon cable (blue tab) and tried every permutation on jumpering the pins but get no signal on the screen.

I've searched the forum but can't see anything relevant

Hi Dick, thanks again for your help.

Following the instructions in the post you cite I am in service mode born out of the T-Con board.

It is cycling though the various test patterns and displays the solarization distortion I described above.

What can be concluded and Is there a component level fix possible for this fault?

If may well be an issue with the control board needing to be replaced.

This looks like a possible replacement if you want to try changing it.

The IC you indicated has no markings (checked with microscope)

I've just ordered the t-con board from eBay.

BTW: It still has the same fault: When it first turns on it's fine but after a couple of minutes it exhibits the solarisation effect fault.

I installed the replacement T-con board but unfortunately the symptoms remain the same:

Good picture immediately after switch on. After a couple of minutes the picture becomes distorted on the highlights, similar to solarization.

Can you suggest any next steps?

                              Many thanks.

That's a pity. Can you check your voltages as given on page 56 of the manual. The correct voltages for your set will be as given on the voltage label on your set.

                                  Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                                  - sound and backlight, but no picture
                                  - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                                  - it keeps rebooting
                                  - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                                  - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                                  - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                                  Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

Some time ago i got this Samsung as a not working tv to try to repair it, the problem was at the Y-main board, someone had tried to repair it before me and there was missing parts off the board including missing heatsink, i had few attempts at fixing the board but were unsuccessful so i got a new board from Aliexpress and the tv is now working but it has rally bad noise in the upper and lower parts of the screen, its especially bad in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Can someone tell me if this is fixable or the panel is done for. Thank you!...

I have this TV bought back in 2007 and used it for playing on PS3 for 4-5 years actively. After then it was barely used. It was mostly in stand-by mode or plugged out of mains completely for years. Today when i turned it on i have noticed noise in picture on two different locations of the screen. As you can see on the photos (see attachments) the noise is only in a small rectangle area, and if you look at it closely you see that one noise rectangle area is at the upper left corner of first half of screen, the other noise rectangle area is at the upper left corner of the second...
