UN50H6203AFXZA failed panel work around question

I didn't want this thread to descend in to utter confusion like the last grand adventure I'm at fault for, so left and right are designated when looking at the front of the TV, at the panel in this thread.

So this UN50H6203AFXZA arrived with sound, backlights and no picture. I did the Left/right isolation procedure. As expected the left lower side was the location of the panel fault. I didn't remove the bezel or look for panel damage at the left lower support.

I started by insulating 4 of the contacts on the left side of the left FFC cable from the t-con to the source driver board. At the 5th contact the picture popped back up, but with horizontal lines. It ran for a while, 20 minutes or so and I noticed a black semi-circle developing about 1 1/2" up the left side. I touched the panel there and it was very warm.

Bottom line, I kept the original FFC cable and replaced it with one from the parts pile and cut through 7 traces on the left side, just under the T-CON. This is what it took to restore a watchable picture but it still has very faint horizontal lines and colors in or close to the red range have lost color strength. For a rescued TV it looks really good for the most part.

    So here are my questions.

Has anyone reading performed this work-around on this model TV, and how long did the TV last after that? Or does anyone have an opinion of life expectancy?

Should I be concerned about damage spreading further in to the panel causing further problems, or did the work-around take care of it?

I feel like 7 traces cut is getting to the end of the road. Can I, or better should I continue cutting more traces with the hope of getting rid of the very faint horizontal lines? Is there any chance cutting more traces might help the color strength on the left side?

For what it is, overall when there's a picture on there it's good enough and if someone else does the procedure this may give you an idea of what you may get.

Re: UN50H6203AFXZA failed panel work around question

I'm assuming the first one I repaired is still working since it was the buyer's second TV purchased from me and I had to replace a board on the first TV he bought so he's not shy about contacting me.

i don't think you could cut more traces on Samsung BN96-30067A (V650HP1-CPS1) T-Con Board's FFC cable which would be LVDS TTL picture drive signals..... photo 1, 2

the 6 traces, you've insulated are VGL VGH, the answer is as simple as yes or no to VGL VGH power sources.

You can refer video below. Some people have to fix this missing VGL VGH scan driver voltages and some people have to avoid this VGL VGH scan driver voltages which could avoid some TTL picture drive signal shorted problems, as you did....please don't tell me, you did cut other side!

PS: Isn't this a good idea, if we can put DIP switches on FFC cable?

          • main board has integrated T-Con
          • main board T-Con has LCD DCDC/PMIC RT6950GQW QFN68 package. Richtek chip. Can't find datasheet. Chip generates VADD (10.44V), VGH (~28V), VGL (~-14.5V)
          • RT6950 pin 18-19 (clockwise) appeared to be bridged. Unlikely from my probing, looks like ball squeezage so it probably got hot
          • Cleaned up bridging. Pin 17 is VGL (-14V) Pin 20 is VGH (28V). Pin 18 (I think 19 too) jumps between VGL and VGH voltage

          QN55Q60R Service Menu Panel Help
          by Storyteller12
I had a the above tv qn55q60r that had a bad panel but everything else good. I had another panel here from un55nu6900 with bad leds and melted diffusers.

I put the nu6900 panel in and powered it up and it does work but there are lines vertical lines.

I was trying to change the panel type in the service menu but don’t see my exact panel. Anyway to fix this or someone have similar experience.

the clear picture is the panel type from the service menus on the nu6900. The other 1 is the panel type that was set for the q60r with the bad panel....

Samsung QN75Q6FNA backlight no display, red LED blink 2x, fault in panel
          by howardc64
          • Prior owner tried a replacement main board. No difference.
          • Samsung 2x red blinking standby LED = panel fault
          • Jumpered FB_TRDY_1 (pin 1 CN1300 left. main tcon->left side buffer boards) and FB_TRDY_3 (pin 95 CN1301 right. main tcon->right side buffer boards) This allows testing individual T-Con (on main board) connection to panel on this Samsung. Found fault on left side (viewing from rear of TV)
          • Each side has 2 buffer boards, disconnected left side flex between 2 buffer boards. Fault is on the left most board.
          • Tape masking eventually isolated to CN1300 pin 15 (CKV4_GOA) Display

          TCL 49S405 double image
          by howardc64
LCD displays a 2nd image slighty offset vertically. And multiple pairs of black lines along the bottom. Probably common as google "TCL 49S405 double image" pulls up this ifixit post ( link ) with identical ( nearly, but their fault seems to be on the other half of the panel than mine ) problem without solution.

This one looks to be a more difficult to diagnose because most? of TCON seems integrated ( CSOT BGA on buffer baord) into the left panel edge board ( looking from rear of TV) There are 2 buffer boards for each 1/2 of the screen. Main connects to the left buffer board...

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board
          by howardc64
All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
          • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
          • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault
