    Grundig 32 LXW 82-8600 DL (XLA194-03 PSU)

I was given this 2008 vintage set to "see if I can get it going again", I like a challenge.
Powering up gave a blue standby light and pressing the power (or channel-up) button dimmed the standby light but nothing else apart from a soft 'pop' from the loudspeakers after a few seconds. A second press of the standby button restored full brightness to the LED so I concluded there can't be much wrong.
Whipped the back off & couldn't see any obvious swollen cap's or burnt components (I checked the back of the PSU board too), so I powered it up again to check a few voltages.
The 12V supply came up when coming out of standby but the 24V rail lingered around 1.3V, even with the inverter board disconnected.
As an experiment, I tried 'jump-starting' it off an external 24V supply and after a flicker of the backlight the set came on, and continued running even after disconnecting the auxiliary supply. Even switching the set to standby and back on again, it continued OK. BUT disconnect the mains even for a few seconds and the fault returns.
    Any pointers gratefully received... TIA.

Well it was a boring Saturday afternoon, so I had another quick look at it. Turns out it wasn't much. It was C2056, a sick 100uF 50V which was wrapped up in heat-shrink, and wedged between a heatsink and a transformer.
Not a bad picture for such an old set

I have the same model, and the same problem... but it has a different power board.

Is the capacitor I'm looking for on the right from the bottom transformer? Left from the three blue capacitors (C29) and diode (D5)... where the white silicone blob is.

I'm asking because you did not provide a photo with metal plate removed and I can only guess what is under it...

It's over two years since I posted this, I had forgotten all about it! If you look closely at the image on the second post I have arrowed the offending cap (it's not very clear, sorry).
Despite the obvious differences, the power supplies do look similar in design, with an almost symmetrical layout. Do you have a capacitor (ESR) tester? If so it shouldn't be too hard to find the culprit. But from your image the component you refer to looks more like an inductor.

          I have something like this:
          https://www.elektor.com/media/catalo...l._sl1000_.jpg

Maybe I could connect multimeter probes to it and check.
But... is it possible to make "in circuit" measurements?

I have been tempted to buy one of those testers but not got round to it yet.
Usually yes, esecially if the board is unplugged from the rest of the set. Occasionally a capacitace reading will be wildly off what you might expect, in which case you will need to carefully desolder one leg. But I do not think it will tell you a cap is good if it is not, even in-circuit
            .

There is a negative coefficient thermistor hidden under silicone blob. When this area is heated with a heat gun I can power the TV without problems. Can thermistor go bad? Or something around that place? There are no cold joints around that place on the board.

I've never had a NTC go faulty, but I suppose there is always a first time, eh? But I do see several small electrolytics in the same area, you could try heating each one individually with the tip of a soldering iron to see if one of them gets it running.

                      by LEECH666
                      Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

Zombie Samsung UN55NU6900F dead / no standby voltage - randomly came to life after hours of troubleshooting then died
                      by tvguy12012012120
This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.

Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today....

Vizio D50u-D1 Dead Set No Standby
                      by fharris1977
Hi. I got a Vizio with no power or standby, and won't turn on with remote or button. I checked the voltages on the connector and all read 0.00V or nearly 0(0.050 ON/OFF pin). None of the pins are labeled STB for standby although I do see some 5V pins. Other than the obvious standby led, which isn't coming on, is there a way to check for standby voltage on this PS. I'm trying to see if my problem is the PS or mainboard. Some Vizios I have fixed with no standby led me to think it was the PS but it turned out being the mainboard. Any experience with this set would be greatly appreciated.

                      Samsung BN44-00259A standby question
                      by Crystaleyes
                      Hi all.

I started a thread while back regarding TV power supply standby circuitry as it is something I am not quite on top of.
SMPS theory and function is becoming more familiar, however the standby part is still a bit of a mystery.

Anyway, a friend has this TV with the above mentioned power supply board which has no standby voltage, nor any other voltages leaving the board.
The mains AC comes in fine, gets filtered and rectified with power is on the main filter cap as well as the transformer and drain pins of the ICE3B0665J, but that's it.

                      Yamaha TSX 120 Standby Problem
                      by psssst
Hello forum. I've recently been given a Yamaha TSX 120 DAB radio and ipod dock. Its working well however when put on standby its using 6.3 watts. The manual states less than 1 watt on standby. I measured this with a plug in monitor which seems accurate with other items. In use it uses around 7.5 watts. Firstly has anyone who owns a similar radio also got a plug in monitor to check if this is normal with this unit? In the first half a second the monitor shows 0.3 watts which I suspect is what it should use but something is switching it to be almost fully powered. I've searched the manual for eco...
