Umm...?? Wizard offered you the part (post #34). Until you get that replaced, isn't the conversation moot?

Re: Zenith - One color on startup?

"broke the screen / focus block", this probably the whole problem. after I broke that little board inside,I tried to approxamate where those wipers were. I marked the knobs before I messed with it. I got a reading on my megohm scale of the wiper service. After approx. where the two wipe tits touched on that slide, I cam up with about 18 meg on the focus and 6 meg on the other one. I got a bunch of resistors, made these resistences up and solder to the exiting wires. I knew it wouldn't be perfect, but I thought it would work enough just to verify that the HVT was bad. I'll take some pictures and show you what I mean.

Re: Zenith - One color on startup?

        That is correct.

These resistor network is made via the pots and both arcs of black material is in megaohms range in series, One input, one output for 1KV to 7KV focus, one other output for screen between 100V to 500V. And current is fraction of a mA because of grid are open and are mostly DC and filtered by ceramic cap (one for focus via stray capacitance and one 47 to 100nF at 2KV to 3KV blue or yellow disk on the CRT board for G2 as screen).

You'll need a good assembly and I offered you a good substitute.

        Cheers, Wizard

          @bogart219- See attached schematic image

Notice the connection thru the block from points A to D. It's essentially one long resistor with 2 taps off of it for screen & focus.

Wiz, I changed a couple of leaking caps on another part of the board. I was trying to determine that it was just the HVT that was bad from me breaking it and nothing else wrong. Will that be an exact match that I just have to solder in? Most important, how much you want for that replacement HVT?
              Thanks!

Hey Toast, couple of questions about that schematic image you posted.
                1) At point A, what approx. would the kv be at this point?
                2) From point A to ground, what should the approx. current be?

                Thank You!

@bogart219 - I do not have the SM for this. Try this site. This is only a suggestion. I have NO experience with their quality or service:

Wow, this is really a shame him not replying. He has posted elsewhere, so he should be seeing your PM's.

Oh BTW, your PhotoBucket pics have been deleted. You really should not use PB. Rather, upload any pics to the forums. That way, someone else in need, years from now, can review what you did or found.

Yeah toast thats what I thought. He did pm back a couple of weeks ago saying he was busy and all which is fine but he's posted on here a number of times since then but won't answer me as far if he is going to send me that focus part or not. I must of peed him off by not taking him up on his offer right away. The reason I stalled was because I wanted to make sure I didn't screw something else up on that board before I had him go through the hassle of sending me that part. I should of explained myself better at the time. Oh well, live and learn. Thank you for the help on this subject plus the tips on posting pics

                                  There's always this site:

http://www.encompassparts.com (Formerly Tritronics before they merged with Vance Baldwin). They carry parts for most major brands.

They're my source for those hard to find TV parts especially flybacks.

I recently got a hard to find IC for my Panasonic 27" made in 01 so they do still have parts for older sets.
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

                                      Hello again,
Hey guys, will the chassis number for my set (SL3285BG) be stamped on the board? There are two seperate boards in there. Any idea what the number might look like? I'm going to look for that focus/screen assembly from a ctc169 chassis also like Wizard suggested. Thanks!

Re: Zenith - One color on startup?

Yellow all, I havn't given up yet. I found a screen/focus assembly from a RCA CTC169 chassis. Foumd this info on google.
"For those that are interested the RCA 204809 focus-screen control assembly
                                        >>is now available at MAT Electronics for $19.50. That's the part that was no
                                        >>longer available that caused so many good CTC169 chassied projection tv's
                                        >>to end up in the dump."
                                        Here is a picture
                                        .
Wizard suggested using one from a ctc169 chassis. It looks like this is for a rear projection set that has 3 crt's. Does anyone know if the ctc169 chassis is used in regular single tube tv's as well? Confused .Thanks!

CTC169 had Direct view (CRT) and rear projection units.
