    [Samsung UE40D5000PW] Horizontal band

Good morning everyone, this is my first request here, I really need your help with my Samsung TV LCD UE40D5000PW.

This the current situation, you can view a dark horizontal band on the top of the screen. Problem has suddenly appeared, TV hasn't been suffering accidental hits, TV was bought in 2016. Panel or T-CON issue?

    Thank you!

the dark issue likely suggests a problem with the way the side drivers are being fed (or not). On smaller sets like this, these are usually fed by the lower corner tab on the bottom of the panel. Check that area out. Apply some light pressure on the tab to see if it changes anything in the display (ie. darkness / band goes away).

Ok thanks for the photo, you need first to disconnect one side ribbon cable between T-COO & LCD of the effected side , and tell the result.

Is the one at the bottom, correct? What should happen? I'll test in the evening

No. not the bottom one. That is the LVDS cable from the Main Bd. The ones that should be removed one side at a time are the top ones. With the set off, remove one side and turn on the TV and observe if the band appears on the half with the picture. Then turn off the TV reconnect the removed side and disconnect/remove the other side. Turn on the TV and observe if the band is present. Report your findings.

Sorry for beeing late, here you can find pictures with one cable disconnected at time. Is this problem related to T-CON? I am going to replace it in case! Thank you!

Yes it looks different, it's a little bit weird.

When I plug both cables while displaying the service menu image, vertical stripes on the left disappear and the image artifact looks similar to my first post (darker image).

in service menu make hard reset. check LVDS between MB and T-CON

Sorry there was a misunderstanding.. the image on the first post displaying service menu (LCD TV details) was a previous one, before the appearance of the problem. I will check.

as budwich mentioned in post #3, you appear to have a panel fault. most likely unrepairable for this set.
WHY CAN'T PHILIPS USE PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWS?

T-CON Bds when they go bad or are failing do not manifest their faults with HORIZONTAL lines or symptoms. The symptoms always show as VERTICAL lines. Since most screens now only carry COFs at the top or bottom of the Panel and do not have side Tab Bds are connected to the T-CON Bd via a Source Bd or Tabl Bd you could have applied the bypass method to repair horizontal lines issues. So yes you do have a bad Panel and so this is repairable at a high cost and is not worth the expense.

                              Dead panel, toss it.
