CRT coolant change and prevent clouding?

Hi all, I have been doing some coolant fluid changes in the CRT projectors for awhile but I really want to do it better. Fewer dust flecks, and prevent re-infection/clouding issues from re-ocurring. Reason I have to do this for two reasons was cloudy coolant or repair leaks which either way had to disassemble CRT assemblies.

I find it hard to get all flecks out of CRT even I swished out empty, washed CRT coolant resealed chambers with fresh 99% alcohol.

Also is there better disinfectant than alcohol? Cannot use acetone because of C-lens are comprised of plastic. The C-lens is first lens mounted on the CRT assembly and sealed with o-ring. (bowl-shaped lens coated with antiglare/x-ray).

    Cheers, Wizard

    dont use alcohol!
it kills some lenses and the colored coatings.causes surface crazing and loss of some coatings esp green on nap sets.
i wash the crt face and lense assy in very hot water with a touch of chlorox in the final rinse which is very hot distilled water.
when it dries due to the heat no spots.
never had any more clouding or floaters on any i did.
i did get some bad coolant once that had crud in it from new though.

      Interesting!

That all? That's interesting. CRT face when I pull out of RCA have TOUGH deposits where rubber seal sits on and takes acetone & swabs to clean off. I do the rubber seal groove as well.

One note of interest, many of RCA I get had bloated expansion bulb even new (assembly mistake) should had been down position to allow for thermal expansion.
RCA diaphgrams does not have "flex" design. Simply a cup, hence the frequent leaks if it's up position (bloat). In their natural state removed from the assembly, RCA diaphgram looks like Charlie Chaplin's hat from black and white film (I'm big fan of him for his funny acts).

Other projector makers designed their diaphgrams correctly so there is no assembly mistakes except for one or two runs of bad diaphgrams in few brands.

      Cheers, Wizard

It is also important to use a fine microfiber cloth that way you can wipe and not worry about smudges. I don't have nearly enough patience to wait for air drying.

Distilled water is a great idea as mentioned too. If there is any remaining dust remove it with a soft brush.

I had to remove a few dead flies and years of dust when I replaced my convergence amps on my RPTV last April. I figured I'd pull the screen off and see how bad it was. I didn't remove the headgasket though just the lenses.

What a difference in color the picture seemed much brighter and sharper afterward. It's suprising how much a little dust can effect clarity.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.
