Vizio XVT3D650SV LED Horizontal Lines - Poor Picture/Color - HDMI Inputs Dead

Title should read vertical lines not horizontal. Mods please edit if possible. Thanks.

I have gone through many vizio threads over the last week and I think I am ready to tackle this frustrating TV.

First, vertical lines appeared in picture the and then the 5 HDMI inputs went out shortly after that (maybe a couple months). When they went out, I limped the TV along using RGB video cables. The lines were a moving target for a while, i.e. they weren't always in the same place and weren't always visible, sometimes they went away. More recently the lines were static and always along the right side of the TV from the viewer. The HD looked sharp (other than the lines) so I went with it. Now over the last month the picture is looking like clouds of circles with color bleeding, in addition, what I would describe as rectangular pixels (my own words here). See the pictures 1 through 3.

    Everything else works as normal.

I took the back of the TV today and attached are pictures of the 4 major boards. See remainder of the pictures.

I have a digital mutli meter and have used on in the past. I may be slow but I can follow instructions.

I took a look around at circuit boards and nothing looks fried or bulging.

Please any help at where to start the diagnosis would be appreciated! I really would like to save this unit if possible and reasonable.

    James.

Any ideas on which board i might try to diagnose first?

To me, the HDMI inputs going out says main board. But, the poor color has me wondering if there are multiple issue now?

    thanks again for any help.

Well, you know you're main board is faulty so if the price is right you can replace it and see if it resolves the other issues. I think it will but can't be certain.

Yes...Those vertical lines can be caused by Main Bd. or T-CON Bd. But I 'd go for another Main Bd. first and start from there.

          Thanks, that's what I figured.

After reading threads about ribbon cables I thought I'd poke around. Went around the boards pushing gently on the ribbon cables to see if that could help. Well sure enough it I believe it did because after doing so, the poor color went away and now only a small visible line exists on the right side of the TV. At least it is watchable again now for the moment.

On the hunt for a replacement main board.

Take the ribbon cables off and clean and inspect the little 'fingers' on both their ends. Properly reseat them and see if wiggling them still changes the picture quality.

Make sure your ribbons are secure, try a factory reset, see if that helps, can also try a firmware update/reapply.
