Degaussing circuit fail in Vestel CRT TV Century CEN 925MTXT

The posistor MZ72AL-9RM failed high resistance (~6.36kohm), degaussing coil no longer worked and the image suffered some horrible color patches.

I replaced it with MZ72-18RM. This posistor was tested and found good, but after firing up the TV, it got damaged.

As the name implies, its cold resistance should be 18ohm, but after just one run its lowest resistance got 28-29ohm.

I can't say for sure whether it had some manufacturing defect, or the degaussing coil somehow managed to kill it.

I found another Posistor that was pulled out violently (not with soldering iron) from old CRT: PCB 12 O8

No info available online, but as the name implies it has 12ohm cold resistance. Good! 12ohm is closer to the value of the original posistor in that TV (9ohm). I soldered it and then powred on the TV. It works! I let it cool down, measured its cold resistance then powered on again several times and it didn't go high resistance or open.

I attach some images of the TV. It's a vestel Made in Turkey CRT TV manufactured at 2004. All the capacitors are Capxon, G-Luxon and Ltec and some unknown brand rated 85C.

What do you think happened to the posistor?
