    LG 42LB5RT not seeing usb

    Hi Guys,

This Tv says "no usb device connected". Have tried my flash drive & Hdd.
The source button calls up all the inputs except Usb.
Selecting Xstudio(on remote) gives options to "record TV" (set has Hdd) playback, photo list, song list & movie list.
Selecting any of the "list's", prompts a "no usb device connected".
Selecting record prompts a "Hdd initialising".

The Hdd seems to be doing something (labouring/ whining).
Methinks the Hdd hasn't completed doing it's thing, and is preventing the Usb from working?

The photo of the Main/ input cpu pcb shows two leds. One burning 'green. This goes off if the Hdd is disconnected, but still "no usb connected" message. The other led (top left) burning red. (something not right?)

I went into the factory settings (press Menu on Tv & Menu on remote for 5 secs).BUT no factory reset option? (browsed all the the options/ nothing)

I haven't mentioned four puffy caps that I replaced in the PSU. (originally thought this was the fault).

I tried to identify an eeprom to do the clk/data pin short to reset the eeprom, but cannot see one.

    The 19v ,12v, 6.5v & 3.4 vall test okay with a dmm
Although the sets has'nt been cleaned/ dusted, I did clean/ lubricate the connectors.

    Can some please help

Re: LG 42LB5RT not seeing usb

Downloaded diagram from electrotanya and with a bit of looking see that the USBDM & USBDM go directly to the BT8158 IC. The supply to the port, regulated by ic 600 measures as indicated.

When going to the "time machine" option on the main menu I see the two USB options low lighted. Is the BT8158 IC damaged? or is there maybe a software fix?

Did you connect the usb stick, turn off the tv and then turn it back on so it can copy the dvr software to it?

Yes, numerous times, was worried set running extended period face down/ heat.
i still feel the hard drive initialising message that keeps coming when trying to access the record facility has something to do with the fault. Possibly the software cant initialise the hard drive, and cannot move on to the next stage of initialising the usb port??

Are you accessing a hard drive via the usb connection OR are you accessing a usb stick, If accessing the hard drive is failing, try just a usb stick and see if that works??

Sorry I wasn't maybe clear at the start, there are TWO HARD DRIVES I am reffering too. The TV HAS ITS OWN HARD DRIVE which wont stop trying to initialise. I'm guessing this is what is hanging up the system.

Maybe a download I can flash the bios with? have searched the Model number here, but don't see same model set.

The other hard drive is my external hard drive, which yes I have left plugged in before attempting to power the the set up. Same goes for the Usb. Thanks

Seems I need a eeprom flash programmer. Just read Mocking birds thread, and making a wild guess.

Have programmed plenty of eeproms in old crt sets with a Pony programmer in the past, but have never tried it with lcd/led sets.

The old sets had through hole ic's, and it was just a matter of fitting a socket to where the eeprom came out, and then programming the bin file (read off other good chips) to the blank, fitting it and hey presto. (LG sets you could just fit blank chips, and they would set them selves up).

The off putting/ daunting part with the new ic's being smd. However after replacing a couple of AS15 gamma ic's, I think i'm ready to attempt programming smd chips. Now just to lay my hands on a programmer with all the necessary requirements as laid out in Mocking Birds thread.
