    Pioneer PDP-LX5090 8 blinks

    Hi all,
I changed the always failing A/V board regulator and set comes on.
BUT - if set is turned off after about 10-15 minutes (minimum) the set will go into protect and show 8 blinks.
Let it cool down for a few minutes will make it start again.

    SO, what is this?
Could the new regulator be out of spec?

Could be. Make sure to check the 1.8V from its output is stable. (Ideally use a scope to see it is not oscillating either.)

Also, refer to the service manual - there is a way to get an orange blink code along with the blue code, which will tell you the exact area of the 8-blink fault (or at least the first area that fell over.) Might help in diagnosing the fault.

The 1.8V regulator is working just fine all the time, even when the 8 blink code is active.
According to service manual by pressing a button on remote 'DISPLAY' will start an orange led blink sequence aswell to give more info.
The problem is: The remote does not have this button even if its a original remote.

        Re: Pioneer PDP-LX5090 8 blinks

        The issue is really strange:

Turn on TV from cold it works perfectly for hours. It does not shut down.
IF you turn it off, and try to turn it on again - 8 blink code.
So, during start-up when hot, the diagnostic system detects something that it does not care about as long as it's up and running.

8 blinks is I2C comms error, could also be caused by a number of other faults like loose connectors or other regulators faulty.
You need to identify what is missing during the fault.

Instead of DISPLAY it might be DISP INFO or INFO? You may as well try a few buttons to get that orange code. I have definitely got it before on UK version of PDP-LX5090.

I found out, the 'DISPLAY' button is included in a factory remote.
I have tried other buttons on the user remote, but I could try more.
The service manual does not cover on component level, only block level.
I have found things on mainboard that differs when set goes into protect and not, but I cannot trace since the manual only refers to changing assys.

Try the button below the number 9 on the remote - the one that brings up source info. Found that on a forum online. The orange blink code will tell you what block failed to help you pin it down.

If the first block failed that just means the first test fail, it could also be a voltage regulator fault for that part of the circuit, e.g. 1.8V or 3.3V missing. You should check the 1.8V regulator to see that the output is not oscillating/unstable under load, sometimes regulators can fail in that way.

I think you can using RS232 access service menu to run panel test patterns and get error history, if that is useful to you.

                Re: Pioneer PDP-LX5090 8 blinks

Today I had the chance of swapping the A/V board which includes the 1.8V regulator. The 8-blink code is still there.
Also PSU was swapped with no change in behaviour.
It boils down to a problem on main board.

I wonder what software is required to reach the RS232 access service menu?

Something like Teraterm or PuTTY will work, you will need to be able to enter escape characters like x01 and x00. I have a guide in one of the PDP-LX5090 threads...I'll try dig it out.

I have been trying to solve the power-down 8-blink red LED problem with my Pioneer.

So far I have replaced the power supply board, and the digital assembly board, I have reconnected the ribbons to all boards, ensuring the connections are good. Even though the problem is the 8 red light error and not the more common 8 blue light error code, I had Kcrownie,

                        by cloo
I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...

                        by janos666
I was trying to reset the Pulse Meter and re-adjust the Panel-1/2 settings in the SM on an exceptionally old Pioneer LX5090 (51k power-on hours according to it's SM). I did this many times on much less aged specimens (with 10-20k hours) without issues. After following the usual workflow, I noticed the darkest gray shade showed up black with bright sparkles. I tried to adjust some other parameters but it didn't disappear. Then I went on and restored the old values of the parameters I don't usually touch (although I did this from memory, so I might have made an error). After that, I started going...

I write this to maybe help another with this TV.

So I aquired this TV a 2023 model. It started the 2 blink reboot problem which indicates bad panel. It was still under warranty and the repair man came by.

The Samsung repairman brought a brand new panel and switched my original boards to the new panel. The new panel then had the 2 blink error code. The repair guy said he has seen this and the MAIN board on this model will cause the 2 blink. He then replaced the main/power board (they are both connected) and put it back onto my original panel. Voila it worked.

                        Hi everyone,

I'm new here and trying to repair my Panasonic TX-P50V10E plasma TV, which is currently showing the 6 red blink error code.

Just for context: I'm used to building PCs and installing modchips in old consoles, but this is my first time trying to fix a TV. I'm French, and while my English is okay, I'm using ChatGPT to help translate and clarify my messages as much as possible — so please forgive any odd phrasing.

I'm also not very experienced with using a multimeter, but I'm very motivated and ready to follow instructions carefully and report...
