    Sony KDL-55W809C - solarization + brightness

I have Sony KDL-55W809C TV and here is short history of problem that I have:
    - 10 months ago, when TV was 5 months old it started to have solarization problem when cold. Blacks were green, lots of purple, some inverted colors.
It was sent to service under warranty (very complicated procedure that lasts 2 months, due to the fact the TV was bought in another country) but as they said they could not replicate the problem when the set arrived there. When they returned it, it was working fine. I thought it was some loose contact, which most likely was.
    - 30 days ago, the issue returned and it gradually got worse, first solarization was for only 1-2 minutes from turning on and in 10 days it stayed for 1 hour, maybe even more.
    - Due to the complicated procedure of sending the TV to service center which will accept it under warranty and with previous experience (possibly bad contact) I've disassembled it and reseated TCon cables (all 3). Problem disappeared and TV was working OK again (no solarization).
    - Then I've noticed that edges of the screen are very bright and that in area of cca 4cm (1,5 inch) there is some burn-in from previous content. Also the entire screen is very bright, even with brightness turned all the way down, as well as gamma in settings.
    - Service mode/WB setting says 512 on all 6 points.
    - After the TV was off for about 4 days (we were not at home), on first start there were darker vertical lines/areas of cca 10cm (5 inches) flashing, where the image would seem as it should (not so bright). Those lines appeared and disappeared for about 15 minutes when finally they were all gone and the screen was bright again.
    - I've ordered and installed new main board to TCon board cable, because the old one did not look so good (picture of TCon with it in attachment), but the screen is still bright.
    - I've also ordered used TCon board which is currently on route (before reseating the cables). The board is the same (code printed on the board itself), but the barcode is not the same as on my board, so my question is will it work? It is from the same model of TV, as the seller stated.

Also, what can cause burn-in and those darker vertical areas and in general those problems that I've described?

        Did t-con fix problem?
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

It may well be that the PWM signal controlling the backligh level is at fault.
Have you measured it and also if you adjust the backlight level does the PWM signal change?

Willing to help but I'm no expert.

New (used) one did not arrive still. Seller refunded the cost and because there were no tracking info, so I'm still waiting for a few days and then will be ordering another.

I did not measure it and to be honest I'm not sure I could without some detailed explanation, but I am willing to try of course.
The thing I noticed that brightness setting as well as gamma have very little impact when turned all the way down.

Forgot to mention that the picture is quite OK when TV is just booted, but as it warms up it gradually gets worse (brighter). Also if the content has dark stripes on top/bottom edges there is no light bleeding there. Also, after warming up image retention problem appears.

Hi , can't help you with fault finding this one. got a 50W700B I'm battling and looks very much like bad / shorted panel for me.

With the TCon though, I made a mistake and got one from a W800B and mainboard rejected it with a blinking green/amber light.

I would try and be sure the numbers match. My original had FX-5550T20C08, replacement was FX-5550T20C01.

Apart from that the board was very similar. I found swapping the eeproms, in particualar the small 8 pin next to the TCON LVDS cable input got it going and produced an image for a moment and then failed, suspect panel damaged the TCON.

This info may prove handy if you replace the tCON and it does not turn on with that amber / green blink.

              good luck

                Re: Sony KDL-55W809C - solarization + brightness

                T-con voltages (typical)
                1. Vin (Vcc): 12Vdc or 5Vdc
                2. Vlogic,LCM, Vddd,VCC): 3.3Vdc
                3. Vda (Vs, Vsource,VDD, Vdda,Avdd): 14Vdc~20Vdc
                4. Vgh (Vgon,VGHR, Von, Vddg): 20Vdc~30Vdc
                5. Vgl (Vgoff,VST,VGHF,VGHEVEN, Voff,Veeg): -5Vdc~-7Vdc
                6. HVDD about 8v
                7. DVDD,VDDC 3.3v, 1.2v
                8. VCOM about 5~10vd
If you want to check t-con voltages

                  Update for future similar problems:

I changed T-Con (bought used one, same numbers on printed board and first 2+10 on bar code sticker) and everything is fine once again. No solarization, no image retention and brightness is working as it should once again.
                  Thanks everyone.

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏
                      by Daren87
                      Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

                      Sony KD-55X9000F TCON Issue
                      by thelankanguy
The TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?...

                      Sony KD-55AG9 TCON?
                      by bbrain
                      Hi,

I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
                      It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.

Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?

                      Thanks in advance!...

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
                      by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Sony KD-70X690E Bravia; Bad TCON? Bad panel?
                      by swrb898
What's wrong with my TV: the TCON, the panel, or something else? I'm stuck.

                      Problem:

Last week, my Sony KD-70X690E 70" stopped displaying a picture. The TV powers on, and the back lights power on. However, the TV doesn't seem to boot up. I say this because the SONY splash-screen logo does not display, nor does any picture display, nor can I invoke a menu by pressing "Menu" on the remote. Other than back-light bleed, the screen is black.

My troubleshooting got me this far:

With the left-hand TCON to bottom-board ribbon cable...
