found one toasty spot on the power supply board
      it is a sr506 diode 60v 5amp
can i substitute sr560? (I am not dyslexic) just that the price difference is notable 10x506=$1 while 1 piece of sr560 is $7

SR 560 is the replacement for the SR506.

Where did you see SR560 for $7?

I only have a harbor freight multi-meter. It does have a setting for diodes (as well as ohms). I desoldered the SR506 diode from the board. as the board was discolored in this area and it seemed like a possible source of my issue. It appears that the schottky diode SR506 tests fine for one direction of current but is there any way of determining if it is 'leaking" or any other defect?
When I first attach the leads, the reading varies from the 700s or 400s or 200s but in each instance almost instantly goes down to ~135. Is this normal value and response?

sounds like it has a capacitor in series. caps go up and down when measuring resistance.
Disclaimer: Don't trust a thing I say-I am frequently wrong!!!

I have tons of spare parts, some used, some N.O.S. ham transistors and caps. Message me if you need any parts.

Some of the things I've fixed:
60" Vizio-bad LED's. iBook G4: Resoldered VCC Plug. Geo Tracker ECU: Swollen / Leaking capacitors. Windows Laptop: Soldered broken LVDS wires. Dryer: Burned contact on temp switch. Oven in R.V.: Bad contacts in relays-Exploded by the looks of them! Samsung Oven: Burned contacts on Relays. MSI Motherboard: BSOD-Swollen capacitors, bad graphics card, Moved SATA Input from SATA 1 to SATA 2 plug

I believe resistors usually fail open circuit and caps usually fail closed circuit/0ohm short. though some times ceramic caps crack because they don't flex and can fail open.

I have the same t.v. I'm trying to fix the inverter-no backlight.
