First off, all you guys who help out on here are rock stars. I'd gladly donate to a beer fund or perhaps even just this forum if that helps, but you guys deserve major respect for donating your time to help us less in the know.
So here's where I'm at.
Samsung PN51E6500DF. Similar I think to the 51E550, and other E models.
Friends TV who gave it to me. One day he just heard a loud POP and screen went blank.
Here's what I know:
1) when plugged in Red LED blinks 5 times to indicate turn on procedure. PS-ON goes low everytime. It will turn off as well (ps-on goes high) from IR remote commands. All the low voltages are within spec on the power supply. VS-On will not activate (or does just momentarily but detects fault and turns off).
2) I can not get sound to come on. Haven't tried using an HDMI input, but there is no startup jingle. Could be this TV never had it? could be turned off in settings? Could be that after fault detection of panel it does not complete startup routine. not sure.
3) Tried disconnecting the Power to the X Buffer? (directly right of powersupply). Still no sound or picture of any kind. Also disconnected power to X/Y main (though traditionally just a Y-main, I think they combined the units on these somewhat newer boards. I believe disconnecting either of these boards causes a fault in the control board (long 5 second blink).
5) Tried the Service mode jumper on the mainboard (pin 3/4). Still shows long green light (5 seconds, off 1 second, on 5, off 1). I recall reading in forums this is DRIVE reset. No picture at all, no flicker, no nothing.
6) absolutely no cracks on panel
7) I also tried service mode and additionally jumpered VS-On. VS-on then powers up VS and shows 209V and 58v for VA. There is a contact pad on the X-buffer board, something Xout, it however reads 12.9V. Vs pad on x/y main reads the same 209v.
So, now I'm not sure where to go. It's tough with this newer board that does not stay on when the control board detects a fault. Also strange that with VS voltage on I still get absolutely no image. No flicker, no nothing.
Who can guide me on how to proceed next. I was going to switch to pulling the x/y main and checking all the fets under the heatsinks, but just wondering what other troubleshooting I should try first.
I also have a pocket oscilloscope I can use. It has a probe and 10x switch. I haven't used it much (mainly car diagnosis), but in my first 3 years of engineering I did a few projects with their larger scopes, so understand how to set triggers, time scale, etc.
