Samsung Plasma PN60E7000FFXZA Great picture for about a minute then shutts down
Happy New Years to all. I have a Samsung Plasma PN60E7000FFXZA. It will work perfectly for a minute or 2 and then shuts down. The sticker on the inside of back panel reads, Vs 219, Va 55, Vsc -200, and Ve 105. I took all readings while I had a picture. The readings where, Vs 218, Va 54, Vsc - 199, and Ve 104.1. On the SMPS pin #1 PS_ON voltage = 3.31 volts and pin #2 ST_BY voltage = 5.30 volts. When I power the tv on the PS_ON voltage goes from 3.31 volts down to 0.14 volts. I guess all that is o.k. as I am new to tv repair. I did not try to do any logic board test patterns without the main board because the tv has a great picture until it shuts down. My logic board is # LJ92-01874A. iT has 4 holes with no protruding jumper pins on 1,2, 3, and 4. I know I am suppose to short out 3 and 4. Not sure about this jig they talk about. It is something you have to make or buy, or can I just short it out with a small alligator clip in the holes between 3 and 4? I don't believe I have to bother testing the logic board, but am not sure. I'm thinking it could be bad capacitors or mosfets on the SMPS, but not sure as I don't have an ESR meter, only a digital multi meter. Could anyone tell me what would be a good ESR meter to purchase without breaking the bank, but not a cheapo either, unless accurate.

bad rep for bad solder joints on the power supply.
Check all solder joints for the components on heat sinks, look for a "ring" on the joints, hard to see sometimes.
Careful with the capasitors on the HOT side, they keep a charge for awhile and can give you a nice zapp...Proud owner of dozens of broken TV's and many, many, many boards.

Re: Samsung Plasma PN60E7000FFXZA Great picture for about a minute then shutts down
Thanks for the reply. That was the first thing I looked for on the SMPS. Even with a magnifier and great light I couldn't visually see any problems, just like you mentioned. Guess I'll try some resolder and go from there. These boards are junk! I built my own computer w/water cooling and never had any problems with it. The Mobo has to be at least twice as thick as this junk SMPS board. The SMPS is too thin. I think it flexes and can't support the weight of the heat sinks, thus giving it solder/connection problems. Sets today are too thin and can't get enough air flow to keep the components cool. I'm a high voltage Journeyman Lineman out of the I.B.E.W.Most of the power company engineers don't even know how to balance a load, but it looks good on paper. These Samsung engineers have brains as thin as their boards and tvs. I'm glad my son,(3rd generation J.L.) gave me this set that his buddy was tossing out. This is the second tv I have worked on . I fixed my 2008, 52" Samsung lcd about 2 years ago, wouldn't turn on. I replaced 3 bulging caps and it has been working great ever since. I need to purchase an ESR meter for future problems. Any ideas on a descent ESR meter, not a kit one? Thanks again, and have a safe, prosperous new year.Comment

Re: Samsung Plasma PN60E7000FFXZA Great picture for about a minute then shutts down
kk,I think I would try and run the test patterns next and see if it still shuts down within minutes. Pin 3 to 4,I use a wire and some solder so I know Im not losing connection while trying to test.
I got a cheapo esr kit from ebay, actually not too bad for accuracy but not super practical either,I get by with it lolProud owner of dozens of broken TV's and many, many, many boards.

I use a Peak Atlas ESR70 and quite satisfied with it, a bit pricey however.
I have also used an Electronic Design Specialist CapAnalyzer 884 with good results.
And the old standby, Blue ESR meter.(kit)Comment

Re: Samsung Plasma PN60E7000FFXZA Great picture for about a minute then shutts down
Well, now that the holidays are over I'm going to try to repair the SMPS. Could anybody tell me the best way to remove the heat sink compound off of the mosfets QS802, QS804, ect. It looks like I need a jackhammer with the amount they put all over the mosfets ect. Would alcohol or acetone help dissolve it, maybe a heat gun or dremel tool, until I get close.over. Any suggestions would be great as I can't do much without getting that stuff off.

Re: Samsung Plasma PN60E7000FFXZA Great picture for about a minute then shutts down
That's not heatsink compound. More like silicone glue.
It may come off easily with light heating and pulling, or you can just slice it off with a scalpel etc. I don't think solvents would do much and some would risk damaging the board."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

by ArMaaN376Hello,
I am having Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV. While the TV was working, a crackling sound heard & video went off with audio still ON. After switching it off & ON, the red LED on TV blinks six times & then off.
Opened TV cover & observed foll
a) Green LED on the small PCB blinks at @5-6sec ON & off for 3-4 secs. Red LED on logic board ON
b)Vs & Va on power supply board raises momentarily to 209v & 58v resp & then drops.
c) Cold test on Y-main board shows all 3 pins of FGPF4536 IGBT short to Grnd.
How to confirm Y -Buffer board... -
by jm1234Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults... -
by KYBOSHPicked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.
When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on... -
by burbutsalosHello ,
The issue with this set is that it turn on just fine and after a minute or so the picture shows either vertical lines or turns half black and from that point on starts a boot loop.
If a let the unit to cool down for a minute the same pattern starts again. i had exactly the same mainboard as a spare and replaced it but nothing changed.
Any ideas what to check?... -
